Teres Whitney
Teres Whitney is a Pottress and all round creative person. She comes by her creativity through constant and persistent work. “Working with my hands is my passion. I am willing to learn any skill and have tried and mastered many. I cook gourmet measl, can the vegetables in my organic garden, sell the canned goods, sew – women and men’s clothing, draperies, kitchenware, tableware and of course Halloween and Christmas Decorations. I create functional sculpture from clay, have been accepted into many juried exhibitions and like to create custom clay platters designed just for one type of service such as the shrimp boat or my crazy tea pots with spouts longer than the pot.”
Teres has held jobs as a Corporate Administrator, Senior Programmer, and Technical Recruiter and currently holds a job as Customer Service Operator and of course the Webmaster of her own creative site.
Teres was born in Kansas, grew up in Naperville Illinois, moved to Texas with her husband, divorced and endrd up in Missouri following the Missouri Provenance Project, which failed. She has been pursuing craft and art related projects since she was able to hold a needle and crochet hook.
“I believe that, just as all of humanity was created from a seed, that we were all born from creation and therefore creative. No master artist or master craftsman was born a master but were created by mastering their craft. This mastery starts with an idea, a kit of instructions, a teacher with skill, a parent’s encouragement or just plain determination to create “THE IDEA”. That is why I believe that anyone can do a craft or art form and no one can say with any certainty “I can’t do that”. You are creation, so you can!”
“My mother was an unusual person with serious doubts, troubles, uncertainties and quirks but what the world saw was her creativity. I saw the whole person and am grateful that that she has passed some of that creativity to me. I will hope, as many children do, that the “crazy” lady stays hidden in my mother’s grave."
Teres’s web site was born as a result of her boyfriend wanting Halloween and Christmas Decorations and her insistence of not wanting lots of commercial-looking stuff, because after all “I was an artist.” She just could not handle little 4 foot Santa blow molds, and tiny snowflakes, or wood painted cut outs in her yard. There is nothing wrong with these kinds of decorations, but it just did not represent Teres and she just wouldn’t have it.
So, with a vengeance, as if competing against every commercial manufacturer producing for Halloween and Christmas, she rushed to make Yard Decorations, so her boyfriend wouldn’t put that stuff in the yard.
“Once I had one or two things made, then I relaxed, he liked what I was doing and set about helping me find and create lighted stands, peg down the creations so they wouldn’t blow away and make suggestions for the next “costume”. Teres has a large collection of homemade Christmas and Halloween Outdoor Decorations and is still coming up with more ideas. Now she is sharing her insanity with you, complete with instructions and some downloadable patterns and videos.
