Gender Neutral Baby Blanket

Materials:
- 1 skein Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Light Blue
- 1 skein Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Petal Pink
- 1 skein Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Pale Green
- 1 skein Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in White
- 1 skein Red Heart Classic Yarn in Maize
- 1 skein Red Heart Classic Yarn in Hushabye
- 5.0mm (US H-8) crochet hook or size needed for gauge
Gauge: 4 rows – 3”, 6 V Sts – 4 ½”
Instructions:
Blanket Measures: 41” x 48”
Special Stitch: V St – (dc, ch 1, dc)

Row 1 (RS): With light blue ch 139, dc in 5th ch from hook, skip 3 ch, *V St in each of next 2 ch, skip 3 ch, repeat from * across to within last ch, V St in last ch, turn.

Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), dc in next ch 1 sp, skip next ch 1 space, *V St in each of next 2 dc, skip next 2 ch 1 spaces, repeat from * across to turning ch, V St in 3rd ch of turning ch, turn.

Row 4: Repeat Row 2, fasten off and turn.
- Row 5: Join baby pink with a sl st in first ch 1 space, ch 3, dc in same space, continue with Row 2 from * across.

What you have after the first row is groups of 2 v-stitches across with 1 on either end. So the "Ch 4, dc in next ch 1 sp" makes the singel v-st on the end of the row. Then the "skip next ch 1 space" sets you up for the 2 v-st group in the middle 2 dc of the previous row. The "ch 1 sp is the ch 1 between the dc that creates the v-st. Hope that helps.

I need help with the second row. What does it mean after DC in next ch----1sp is this skip one if so the next is also skip one and what is meant by ch 1 space. I have just started crocheting and I don't understand. If you can help I would like to make it for our great grand daughter. Thank you
