Columbine Flower
Of all things to crochet, flowers can be some of the most rewarding. Who doesn't love flowers? Especially ones as nice as the Columbine flower. Follow this pattern for great results. This flower has 5 petals in light lavender with dark lavender center and yellow stamens.
Materials:
- Red Heart Yarn, Center – Lavender #584 2 yds.
- Red Heart Yarn, Petals – Light Lavender #579 7 yds.
- Stamens – DMC #973
- H hook
Instructions:
Center of Flower:
With H hook and lavender [leave 30” for behind petals], ch 5 and form a ring, 10 sc in ring, join to beg sc and fasten off leaving about 6” of yarn to close up center hole.
Petal:
Join light lavender *(sc, dc, 2 trc) in sc, (2 trc, dc, sc) in next sc to form a petal, rep from * around, join to beg sc and fasten off. (5 petals)
With 6” of yarn left weave to close up center hole.
With 6 strands DMC #973 work 8 french knots in very center of the flower.
(Continue with Rnd 1 as established in general instructions.)
General Instructions:
- If sewing flower directly to crocheted item omit instructions between [ ].
- If continuing a pattern behind the petals of a flower, use all instructions for the flower then crochet the following:
Rnd 1 – (Behind Petals)
With H hook and 30” strand of yarn (left behind flower) work in center of the
flower *sc between any 2 sc, ch 3, cont from * around evenly spacing 3 more
ch 3 sps, join to beg sc and fasten off. (4 ch 3 sps)
Continue with your pattern.

I like the simplicity and size. It is nice for a little girl or a cluster of them for a headband.

This one looks more like something I would make. looks more like a flower should.

This looks more like a project I would do, since it's knitted (or it looks as if it is) & the other one looks crocheted to me. (I do crochet occasionally, but I definitely prefer knitting...)
