Cozy Winter Headband
This Cozy Winter Headband is perfect for any season. The super fine yarn makes this crochet ear warmer easy to make and very comfortable to wear. Make one for every season and you'll have warm ears year round! Once you learn how to crochet a headband, you may never want to buy one ever again. Unlike a normal headband, this design is meant to cover your ears and keep you comfortable in the cold. This is a great alternative to a winter hat because you can't mess up your hair. Best of all, the colors are light and neutral, making it an ideal go-anywhere accessory that works with any kind of outfit.
Materials:
- RED HEART® Stardust: 2 skeins 1805 Blue (A); 1 skein 1623 Green (B)
- Crochet Hook: 4.25 mm [US G-7]
- Yarn needle
GAUGE: 20 sts = 4”; 14 rows = 4”. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
NOTES:
- 3-hdc cluster (cl) = [Yo, insert hook in space, yo, draw yarn through st] 3 times in same space, yo, draw yarn through 7 loops on hook.
- Foundation single crochet (fsc) = First St: Ch 2, insert hook under top 2 strands of first ch, yo, draw up a loop, yo, draw through 1 loop, yo, draw through both loops (first fsc complete). Remaining sts: Insert hook under both loops of previous st, yo, draw up a loop, yo, draw through 1 loop, yo, draw through both loops.
- Chain 2 counts as hdc throughout. All stitches are worked into the top and the back loop of the indicated stitch to form a ridge in the completed row.

Instuctions:
With A, Fsc 20; ch 2, turn to work into sc side of foundation ch.
Row 1: Hdc in the next 4 sts, *ch 1, skip next st, cl in the next st, ch 1, skip next st, hdc in the next 5 sts; repeat from * across; ch 2, turn – 2 cl, 4 ch-1 spaces, 15 hdc sts.
Row 2: Hdc in the next 4 sts, *cl in the next ch-1 space, ch 1, skip next st, cl in the next ch-1 space, hdc in the next 5 sts; repeat from * across; ch 2, turn – 4 cl, 2 ch-1 spaces, 15 hdc sts.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 following the headband stripe sequence until piece measures 18½” (20”) long. Fasten off.
Headband Stripe Sequence:
For 18½” (20”) headband, work 9 (12) rows with A, 3 rows with B, 3 rows with A, 3 rows with B, 9 rows with A, 9 rows with B, 9 rows with A, 3 rows with B, 3 rows with A, 3 rows with B, 9 (12) rows with A.
Lining:
With A, fsc 20; ch 3, turn to work into sc side of foundation ch.
Row 1: Dc in each st across; ch 3, turn – 20 sts
Repeat Row 1 until piece measures 18½” (20”) long.
Fasten off.
Finishing:
With yarn needle, sew long edges of both pieces together.
Turn inside out. Sew ends of lining edge together, inserting needle in each st on each end. Sew the outside edges together in the same manner. Weave in ends.

I like the look of this Cozy Winter Headband, I had to read the pattern a few times before it mad sense to me. I think it would be better to not cut off the yarn at the end and just start the lining. This will work right? I'll try it and see if it works. I like the double thickness of the headband and the stitch pattern looks great! Thank you for the print tab, it let me save this on my lap top. I think I can figure out the instructions but after reading how to do the stripe sequence for this headband, what is the Lining part of the instructions? I figured it is done after the 4 of instructions besides the finishing off.

this pattern is confusing. It looks to me in the picture there are at least 4 rows of HDC before you begin the rows of your clusters yet in pattern it starts in 2nd row. So what am I not reading right?

I don't understand that part. I'm fairly new at this, but I always practice before really starting.

Instructions vague. I assume cl = cluster but what size? There are several different variations available. That means the number of stitches in the row just completed. Hope this helps.

daynnightdreamer.....since this was made with Red Heart I went to their sight and if you go to the free patterns and look for the Warm & Shine Hat and Scarf Pattern you can find the complete instructions for both...hope this helps!

Ok, this may be a stupid question but in step 1 it says: turn - 2 cl, ch-1 spaces......what does cl mean?
