Size 10 mm (U.S. N or 15) crochet hook or size needed to obtain tension.

7 sc and 7 rows = 4 ins [10 cm].
INSTRUCTIONS

BACK
**Ch 28 (30-32-34-38).
1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. 27 (29-31-33-37) sc. Turn.
2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in 1st sc through front loop only. *1 sc in next sc through back loop only. 1 sc in next sc through front loop only. Rep from * to end of row. Turn.
Rep last row for pat until work from beg measures 9½ (10-12-12-12½) ins [24 (25.5- 30.5-30.5-32) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.
Armhole shaping: Next row: Sl st in each of first 2 sc. Pat to last 2 sc. Turn. Leave rem sts unworked. 23 (25-27-29-33) sc.
Next 3 rows:Work even in pat.
Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first sc. Draw up a loop in each of next 2 sts. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook - sc2tog made. Pat to last 3 sts. Sc2tog over next 2 sc. 1 sc in last st. Turn. 21 (23-25-27-31) sts.**

Shoulder shaping: Next row: Sl st in each of first 3 (3-4-4-5) sc. Pat to last 3 (3-4-4-5) sc. Turn. Leave rem sc unworked.

What does it mean in the instructions when it says "Pat i sc"? Actually what does Pat mean? Thanks.

There is a hat pattern very similar on the Patons website called Melody Funkytown and it's free. Try it.
