Cabled Wrap

Use a free crochet pattern like this one to make a fun cabled heather wrap. It's nice and long to keep you warm, yet there are holes to let you breathe. This pattern from Caron International Yarns is for the more experienced crocheter.

Materials:

• Caron International's Simply Soft Heather
• (100% acrylic; 5 oz/141.8 g, 250 yds/228 m skein): 7 skeins (MC);
• Caron International's Simply Soft Brites (100% acrylic; 6 oz/170 g, 315 yds/288 m skein): 1 skein (A);
• Caron International's Simply Soft
• (100% acrylic; 6 oz/170 g, 315 yds/288 m skein): 1 skein each (B) and (C)
• Shown in # 9508 Charcoal Heather (MC); #9611 Rose Violet (A) #9742 Grey Heather (B) and #9738 Violet (C)
• Crochet hook: One each size US size I/9 and J/10 (5.5 and 6 mm)
• Yarn needle
• Row counter (optional)

GAUGE
Gauge is not critical for this project.
In Stitch pattern, 14 sts and 17 rows = 4"/10 cm, using larger hook

SPECIAL TERMS
FPdc: (Front Post double crochet) Yarn over, insert hook from front to back to front around stitch indicated, yarn over and pull up loop, [yarn over and draw through 2 loops] twice.
FPtr: (Front Post treble crochet) Yarn over, insert hook from front to back to front around stitch indicated, yarn over and pull up loop, [yarn over and draw through 2 loops] 3 times.
RT: (Right Twist) Skip next sc, FPdc around next 3 dc, sc in sc behind previous FPdc.
LT: (Left Twist) Sc in next sc, FPdc around next 3 dc.
Cable: Skip 2 FPdc, FPtr around each of next 2 FPdc, FPtr around each of 2 skipped FPdc.

Unless instructed otherwise, skip sc behind FPdc.

WRAP
Using smaller hook and MC, chain 84.
Row 1 (RS): Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across, turn, change to larger hook —82dc.
Row 2 and every WS rows: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc, 4 FPdc, sc, (3 FPdc, 8 sc, 3 FPdc) 5 times, sc, 4 FPdc, sc, turn.
Row 5: Ch 1, sc, cable, sc, (LT, 6 sc, RT) 5 times, sc, cable, sc, turn.
Row 7: Ch 1, sc, 4 FPdc, sc, (sc, LT, 4 sc, RT, sc) 5 times, sc, 4 FPdc, sc, turn. Row 9: Ch 1, sc, cable, sc, (2 sc, LT, 2 sc, RT, 2 sc) 5 times, sc, cable, sc, turn. Row 11: Ch 1, sc, 4 FPdc, sc, (3 sc, LT, RT, 3 sc) 5 times, sc, 4 FPdc, sc, turn.

Row 19: Ch 1, sc, 4 FPdc, sc, (sc, RT, 4 sc, LT, sc) 5 times, sc, 4 FPdc, sc, turn.
Row 21: Ch 1, sc, cable, sc, (RT, 6 sc, LT) 5 times, sc, cable, sc, turn.
Row 22: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
Rows 23 – 282: Repeat Rows 3 – 22.
Row 283: Repeat Row 3. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Edging: Using larger hook, join MC in a corner st; work 3 sc in same st and joining, * working across long edge of piece, sc in every other row to corner, work 3 sc in corner, sc in each st across short edge), work 3 sc in corner; repeat from * once on remaining 2 sides; join with a slip st to first st. Fasten off. Using yarn needle, weave in all ends. Embroidery: Using yarn needle and colors A, B and C, work embroidery, Lazy daisy and Straight stitch flowers (see Diagrams), using photo as a guide for placement.
