I love this Baby Crochet Monkey Hat! I call our youngest Grand daughter little monkey and I have to make this for her. I think I'll use a larger hook and add a few more rounds to make it larger. The pattern reads well and I hope it will come out as good as the one in the picture. This will make for a nice warm winter hat, made with a soft yarn for the youngest one. Love the ear flaps too. Thank you so much for sharing this free crochet pattern.

What is the magic circle this hat starts with?

Adorable! When i was little, Everyone used to call my twin sister Nicole a monkey because of her great climbing ability, so this hat bring me back memories. I wish we had this when we were little. And praise to however wrote these instructions, they were great!

What is a magic circle to start the pattern? Is it chain 3 then sc 6 in third chain from hook?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLuSVyKvoUg } here is a video tutorial on the magic circle... I had to google it.

Dear FaveCrafts, I wanted to make this hat for our grandchildren (twins) 4 years old. Would you please enlarge this pattern for me for a toddler. I have made a few hats but don't trust myself to make this with out a pattern for toddlers. Would you please help me. They love monkies and would love this hat. Thank you for all your help, Sharon

Not only do I love it, but I made it for a friend's grandson who is in the Marvelous Monkeys class this year. Had to make it a little larger for a toddler. Can't wait to see a photo of him wearing it. Completed it in about 3 hours.

Very cute pattern and I have an 11 yr old AND a 21 yr old that would wear it "just because" :)

There are a lot of kids' crochet hats (and patterns) floating around out there - especially on Etsy! The Craftytortoise is one of the sellers...the hats go for $30 - $35!!!! There's also a lady down south somewhere that sells her patterns on Etsy, as well, and they all look very similar. Some are cuter than others - I'm not a huge fan of this Anne Geddes style of people dressing their babies as animals, personally, but there's a sock monkey pattern that grew on me!

This is an adorable pattern. My granddaughter is expecting a baby next Spring and loves monkies. I will definitely be making this for her and the new baby. Thank you so much for the pattern. I was hoping to be able to find just such a pattern!! I love your website.

no. fine for halloween not the rest of the time. time worked: we could do this in 6-8 hours or less, unless one adds features. without the ears - nice winter hat. fredw

I MADE THIS HAT FOR MY GRANDSON LAST HALLOWEEN. I ADDED A FELT FACE. IT CAME ADORABLE.

I simply love it. it should be made for babies. it also would be cute to use pinks for baby girls and blues or the colors it is for boys. This hat would make a perfect baby gift or christmas gift better yet, an anytime gift. Only a really mean person would think it wasn't cute or make a great gift.

I've have 6 grandsons & they love MONKEYS! So, I will be making a whole lot of this hat for Christmas!! {How many days til "Santa" comes?? LOL } Nana (to the G-Sons )

Oh yes I will be crocheting this cute little monkey-hat !! The yarn has been purchased and soon it will be a work in progress !! The g-baby who will be wearing this monkey-hat is 9 months old. She loves wearing hats. This one will surely become her favorite. Cold weather is not too far away, and a hat with ear-flaps will keep her little head warm. I believe by changing to a larger crochet hook, she can be wearing cute little monkey-hats for a long time.

This hat is adorable! I made it for my newest grandson to wear home from the hospital. So Cute! But he doesn't like hats. Oh well it's still a good project and looks good.

LOVE the monkey hat!! Can hardly wait to make one for my Great Granddaughter! The hat would also make a great addition to a Holloween costume, woud be the cutest monkies around!

this hat is adorable....everybody i have made it for loves it!

salinagrandma 0300983 : sc2tog is another way of saying a decrease is made. A magic loop is a technique for starting crochet in the round without a chain to start. You can find video demos on YouTube, just search "crochet Magic loop" and you'll find it. I've made monkey hats (and kitties and bears and bunnies as well) by putting ears on other hat patterns or improvising new ones. I've made them for all ages, infant to adult, and they're always a big hit at my local annual craft fair.

what is magic circle in the monkey hat? what is sc2tog? I have been crocheting for 58 yrs. and haven't heard of these. Perhaps there are other names for same stitches. Can this hat be made larger by using larger hook or will I have to add more stitches? My 16 yr. old granddaughter wants me to make her one to wear. This is a confusing pattern. I do hope they aren't all like this, as I said, I have been crocheting for 58 yrs. and can instructions and also make up my own, but this pattern is diffferent. Thank you. I just recently joined FaveCrafts and I look forward to making many of your projects. Thank you for posting the instructions for us. Happy Crafting.

I wish it was more clear where to attach the earflaps. Can someone give me a hint?

This is great! Our family often refers to cute or mischieveous children as "little monkeys." Now they can actually look the part. lol Can't wait to make this for our newest "little monkey."

So cute! Wish iIknew how to crochet. My friend's mom try to teach us a little in middle school but i wasn't very good at it. :(

Here is a link to a video on YouTube on how to do the Magic Circle. This is how I learned and it is super easy after watching the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLuSVyKvoUg

To answer the last question...SINGLE CROCHET DECREASE (a/k/a SINGLE CROCHET NEXT TWO STITCHES TOGETHER)

I need help on finding out what a sc2tog is?

I'm struggling with this pattern. I'm following the intstructions (again and again), but rather than increasing in a tapered way, like the top of the hat, it seems to be getting too big and is puckering all around. Can anyone offer me any advice? Thx.

The magic circle is simple. Since you have 6 sc going into the circle you will need 3 chains. Chain 3, attach last chain to first chain with sl st, ch 1, now 6 sc into center of circle made. As to enlarge it, not sure but I suppose if someone played with it long enough they could figure it out. Good luck.

After you finish rows 11 to 28 on this monkey hat, do you fasten off and start the earflaps in a different place?

I have two comments- how do you make a 'magic circle', and could this be made larger, for a six year old?

Row 6 is right.... when it starts with2 sc in nxt stitch 1 sc in next 4 count that as row 7 and back everything off by one number. In other words row 7 listed becomes row 8 etc. it makes rows 11-28 actually rows 12-29 If you need more help. Mary11983@hotmail.com and I will get back to you. Mary

For the HAT, round 6 is confusing....says 2sc next st then 3 sc 'around'...then in same row it says 2 sc in nxt st and then 4 sc 'around' ??? Can someone clarify this for me, please....thanks!

what is sc2tog?i'm dieing to make this but i have no idia what that meansthank you ever so much.

How sweet. I am gonna have to give one of these a try Thank You
