    Knitted Serpentine Pattern

This Knitted Serpentine Pattern is great for those who are new to cable knitting.  You can use this motif when creating scarves, sweaters, wraps, and more.  The twisted snake look is a traditional technique that every knitter should know how to do!

    Materials:

    • Needle Size: 10.5
    • Yarn: Worsted Weight Yarn

    Notes:
    Finished Size: 6 x 9 inches
    Gauge: 5.16 stitches per inch

    Instructions:

    1. Cast On: 29 stitches

    2. C6F - Slip 3 stitches to the front, Knit 3 stitches then Knit 3 stitches from the cable needle

    3. C6B – Slip 3 stitches to the back, Knit 3 stitches then Knit 3 stitches from the cable needle

    4. Moss Stitch: On odd numbered rows you are going to K1, P1, K1, P1.

    5. On the even numbered rows you are going to knit the purl stitches and purl the knit stitches.

    6. [TIP: One thing I do is that I add a stitch marker after the first 5 stitches are done (moss stitches) and I add one before the last 5 stitches (also moss stitches). I do this, because on the Wrong Side rows (the even numbered rows) you knit the knits and purl the purls but when you get to the moss you don't. The stitch markers let me know when I'm there. I don't have to worry about looking ahead on every single row.]

    7. The cable pattern is in bold if you wish to change the stitches between them and the border stitches.

    8. Rows 1, 3, 7, 9: 4 moss, P3, K6, P3, K6, P3, 4 moss

    9. Rows 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12: Knit the knits and purl the purls

    10. Row 5: 4 moss, P3, C6F , P3, C6F, P3, 4 moss

    11. Row 11: 4 moss, P3, C6B, P3, C6B, P3, 4 moss

    12. Repeat rows 1-12

    13. When you reach the size required you can bind off and weave in the ends.
