Keep Paper Scraps

Organizing Paper Scraps by Ruslana Zitserman , Kent Ridge, Singapore

If you work a lot with colored wrapping paper (origami, paper covered boxes and picture frames, etc), don't throw out the leftover paper scraps; they might be useful for your next project. If you are afraid that your workplace will soon be covered by a heap of paper, do the following: put all matching scraps into a plain envelope and glue a one piece to the front. This way you will know what's inside without opening the envelope. Then you can organize all the envelopes in hanging files or simply arrange them in a box.

mosiacs for the tiny pieces?

thats a great idea! I saved tiny pieces for a bit for confetti, but thats about it, the rest usually gets vacuumed unless its "usable"

I save my scraps by color in ziploc baggies filed in a plastic shoe box

That is a great idea. I also have scraps of watercolor papers, paintings that "failed". I use them for collage. That means I can sort them like the scrapbooking papers!! What a neat idea! Thanks.

I use an accordian file folder that I got at Staples. (I acutally use 2 of them.)I keep them right next to my large Fiskars cutter. This works well for me.

thats an awesome idea! Are they color coded or just plain? Either way sounds like a great idea!

Great Idea, I do have that problem, of a jumble of scrap papers.... I separated them which made if much easier!

great idea thank you

I use the ziploc type bags also and find this the most useful. I can just glance at the bags to see what I have or what I need. :-)

I have been getting so frustrated with all my scraps, I was ready to throw them out. But this is a fantastic idea. I tried using those plastic sheet protectors, one for each color of paper, but it really doesn't work as well as I would like. Thanks for this tip.

been doing this for years and you can imagine how much i have.

To : agypsyangel The acordian file is great idea!! I was getting ready to throw one out..Glad i didn't. Thanks!!

Since I don't normally have large amounts of one particular pattern, I organized mine in zippered type plastic bags by color family and that way I can see at a glance what is in there!

Love this idea. Thanks!

You can use those accordian files too.

This is a great tip! I have a paper tray, as in the type one may find on a desk in an office, that holds my different envelopes of scraps. Recently, I saw an idea to make clothes pins into coordinated paper clips and pencils. I used the paper scraps from my envelopes. They all went well together and it made a great gift for a friend who loves snail mail!

We fill the dog food bags with our crushed aluminum cans. Once when we turned in the cans for cash, we got enough cash to buy the gas to go on a road trip to visit our friends in Ontario! Of course gas was much cheaper then. You could also use them to bag up the leaves after you rake them since they should be biodegradable.

THAT is a very good idea! I bet a lot of those bags go to waste! Kill two birds with one stones!!

I have a box beside my desk that I put all my small scraps of paper in. I also have one at work. Since I do a lot of card making I have some sentiments already in the box that I didn't use on the cards. I can grab it anytime and use what I have instead of wasting. I also do decoupage so I am always saving those small scraps as well (in another box). Excellent economical information. GL maphisx7

For the person with large dogfood bags... The largest of the bags can be cleaned out very well, and used for storage in your garage areas! If they are the kind that have a moisture-proof inside to keep the dogfood fresh, they will also keep your items dry and protected. Just tape the top or use a tie to close. Use a large marker to write the contents on the outside. After long-time use, just toss them, or better yet, reuse (again) for a heavy trash bag! They also work well for summer camping trips to bring dirty laundry and wet swimsuits back home.

For the person wanting to donate scraps of paper. I gave mine to my granddaughter's girl scout troop. They were very glad to get them. Don't know a girkscout, try a school teacher.

I save them but it just seems that when I need just a small piece they're not big enough or not the right shade or color. I wish I knew someone to donate my scraps to locally.

for the large dog food bags. I have a friend give me her empty chicken feed bags (28lbs when full) They are very strong and water repellant. I made them into tote bags. Just turn down the raw edge at the top and stich, sew up the sides (right side or wrong sides together) add heavy twill belting for handles. I sew them on with first sewing a box then an X in the box. IF I had your large bags, I would make a gusset at the bottom so they would stand up and hold more. People that see mine always want to know where I bought my tote. I tell them you need to know an egg farmer.

To the person with all the dog food bags. We use them for doggy poop! Having three big dogs, they are great for that. Also use them for trash as they are so tough and don't break. Good luck.

I don't know what to do with my big 54 lb bags of dog food, they are very strong and big. Can somebody tell me what to do with them????????

With scraps of paper...using a variety of small paper punches and decorating cards, envelopes, tags, etc. Kids love a pile of scraps to punch out and glue down on paper..oh heck...truth be told..I LOVE IT TOO!!

If you need to ask what would you do with the scraps, that's OK, just means your talents and interests are somewhere else. Anyone who does decoupage would find uses for scraps. I also use scraps to add interest to handmade papers.. There are just so many things to do!

And then what do I do with the scraps?

very good idea!!
