Beaded White Ballet Dress
Need a costume in a hurry? This project shows you how to get an embellished outfit in minutes. To dress up a plain, purchased outfit, simply decorate with beads, tape and metallic threads - and you will stand out in the crowd.
Materials:
- Kreinik Metallic Threads (we used #16 Braid 032, 001C, 1/16" Ribbon 3231)
- 4" x 6" Treasure Tape Sheet
- Diamond Beadlets
- Tools: Pencil, Scissors, Iron, Teflon Presscloth
Steps:
- Trace your designs onto the white liner of your Treasure Tape sheet. You can make your own designs, use a rubber stamp, or use a stencil. Cut out your designs, one for the bodice and one for the skirt. Remove the white liner and center your designs on the dress.
- Peel back your red liner on the bodice tape and begin to embellish with your Kreinik metallic threads. You can outline your shape with thread and work inward, filling all or part of the tape as desired. Next, embellish your skirt motif.
- When finished, place your dress in a shallow tray and pour Diamond Beadlets over your design areas. Swirl with your fingers to cover fully and tap to remove excess beadlets.
OPTIONAL: For a more permanent bond, use an iron to heat-set the design. If your dress fabric is sensitive to heat, be careful to keep your teflon presscloth between it and your iron.
Notes: The shaft of the iron is hot enough to instantly vaporize the gauze of the skirt... DO NOT touch the skirt with anything but your iron's covered foot. - Smaller design motifs allow for better stretch in your fabric.
Kreinik threads available through needlework stores or www.kreinik.com.
