Homemade Christmas Wreaths: The Base
The Base
Classic Styrofoam or Wire Wreath Frame- This one is pretty self-explanatory. A Styrofoam ring is cheap, and, with pins, easily allows for affixing items to the wreath. Wire frames are also available from crafts stores for a few dollars.
Plastic Platter Rings- Recycle those plastic rings that shrimp and other food platters come on (with the cut out in the middle for dip) to make homemade wreaths. Just cut out more of the center portion, leaving a few inch wide ring.
Hula-hoop- A hula-hoop is the perfect base for a large wreath, such as for bay windows.
Craft or Floral Wire- Sturdy craft or floral wire can be used to make many wreaths, such as floral or beaded wreaths.
Clothes Hanger- A clothes hanger can be bent into a circle for a convenient wreath ring.
Flexible vines- Bend flexible natural branches or vines (ivy, grape, honeysuckle) into wreaths and secure with wire. You can also purchase plain grapevine wreaths at garden centers to then embellish.
