Applesauce Cinnamon Ornaments

"It takes just a few simple ingredients to make these lovely applesauce cinnamon ornaments. Now is the perfect time for this DIY Holiday Craft. There is just over a week left before Christmas and it is the perfect time to make these quick homemade gifts to give to our family, friends, teachers, postal workers, and anyone else that you want to bring some Holiday cheer to. Once you mix the dough and roll it out, let the kids use cookie cutters and create their own ornaments. Place them on parchment paper or a silicone baking sheet and make the hole for the ribbon or string to go through for easy hanging. This is a simple recipe with just two ingredients. Applesauce and ground cinnamon. Some people have added glue to their mixture as these can be a bit fragile even after they have fully dried. Combine the applesauce and the cinnamon. I found that the cinnamon is quite powdery and will make you cough a bit when mixing as the fine dust gets into the air. Therefore, add the cinnamon to the bowl first and then add the applesauce, it will help reduce the airborne cinnamon. Mix the ingredients until it is fully incorporated, you might even want to use your hands near the end. Roll out about a quarter of the dough at a time to a thickness of ¼ – 1/3-inches. I find that a bit thicker makes this a bit sturdier. However, it will give you less ornaments and take longer to dry."

If you enjoyed making the Applesauce Cinnamon Ornaments, there are plenty of other Christmas crafts that you can try your hand at! Here are three suggestions:

1. Salt Dough Ornaments: Similar to the Applesauce Cinnamon Ornaments, salt dough ornaments are easy to make and can be customized in endless ways. Mix together 1 cup of salt, 2 cups of all-purpose flour, and 1 cup of water to create the dough. Roll it out, use cookie cutters to create shapes, and then bake them in the oven. Once they are cooled, you can paint and decorate them however you like.

2. Pine Cone Decorations: Collect some pine cones from your backyard or a nearby park and give them a festive makeover. Paint the tips with white or silver paint to resemble frost, sprinkle them with glitter, or even glue on some small pom poms or beads. Tie a ribbon around the top and they are ready to hang on your Christmas tree or use as table decorations.

3. Paper Snowflakes: This classic craft is a great activity for all ages. Simply fold a piece of white paper into a triangle, then fold it in half twice more. Use scissors to cut out different shapes along the edges, then unfold to reveal your unique snowflake. Hang them in windows, on walls, or even string them together to create a garland.

These crafts are not only fun to make, but they also make great gifts or decorations for the holiday season. Get creative and enjoy the process of crafting something special for Christmas!
