Nature's Christmas Stocking
Mother Nature provides the materials for this door decoration; assorted nuts and pinecones are glued to a stocking shape cut from a foam sheet.Beautiful, understated holiday decoration showcases subtle beauty and colors of nature.
Materials:
- STYROFOAM Brand Products:
- Sheet, 12" x 18" x 1"
- Dried materials: pinecones, 1/2" - 1-1/2"; unshelled almonds, pecans, and other nuts in shades of lights and darks; seed pods
- Braid, 3/4" x 1-2/3 yd.
- Ribbon, 1/2" x 6"
- Acrylic craft paint, brown
- Serrated knife
- Old candle
- Acrylic shellac
- Thick, white craft glue or low temperature glue gun and glue sticks
Steps:
- Cut out stocking pattern; pin to foam sheet. Wax knife blade with old candle; cut stocking from foam sheet.
- Paint stocking brown; let dry.
- Arrange dried materials on stocking until satisfied with pattern. Model shown includes starburst designs and stripes. Glue materials to stocking, placing items as close together as possible. Fill in any bare spots with tiny pinecones. Let dry.
- Apply one to two coats of shellac. Let dry.
- Glue braid around edge of stocking.
- Tie ribbon in loop; pin and glue to top of stocking for hanger.
