Over the Rainbow Afghan

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Crochet HookH/8 or 5 mm hook

Materials:

  • 1 skein Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Light Blue
  • 2 skeins Red Heart Classic yarn in Lilly Pink
  • 2 skeins Red Heart Classic yarn in Maize
  • 4 skeins Red Heart Classic yarn in Hushabye
  • 5.0 mm (US H-8) crochet hook or size needed for gauge

 

Gauge:

  • 4 row repeat – 2 ¾”
  • 8 dc – 2 ½”

Over the Rainbow Afghan

Instructions:
Blanket Measures:  41” x 46”
Blanket is crocheted in multiples of 8 plus 4.

  1. Row 1 (RS): With hushabye ch 132, dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across, fasten off and turn.   (128 dc)
     
  2. Row 2: Join pink in first stitch, ch 3, dc in next dc, * ch 3, skip next 2 dc, (sc in next dc, ch 3) twice, skip 2 dc, dc in next 2 dc, repeat from * across, turn,
     
  3. Row 3: Ch 3, dc in next dc, *ch 1, skip next ch 3 space, 4 dc in next ch 3 space, ch 1, skip next ch 3 space, dc in next 2 dc, repeat form * across, turn.
     
  4. Row 4: Ch 3, dc in next dc, *ch 2, skip next ch 1 space and next dc, dc in next 2 dc, ch 2, skip next dc and ch 1 space, dc in next 2 dc, repeat from * across, fasten off and turn.
     
  5. Row 5: Join hushabye in first stitch, ch 3, dc in next dc, (2 dc in next ch 2 space, dc in next 2 dc) across, fasten off and turn.
     
  6. Row 6: Join blue in first stitch, ch 3, and continue with Row 3.

Color Scheme:  Continue 4 row pattern for a total of 61 rows as follows:  (3 rows blue, 1 row hushabye, 3 rows maize, 1 row hushabye, 3 rows pink, 1 row hushabye) 4 times, 3 rows blue, 1 row hushabye, 3 rows maize, 1 row hushabye.

Edging

  1. With hushabye work along top edge 2 dc in first corner dc, ch 1, 2 dc in next dc, ch 3, skip 2 dc,  *sc in next dc, ch 3, sc in next dc, skip 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in next dc, ch 1, 2 dc in next dc, ch 2, skip 2 dc, repeat from * across to last 4 dc, ch 3, skip 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 1, 2 dc in last dc.
     
  2. Work along side edge ch 3, *skip 1 dc space, (sc, ch 3 sc) in next dc space, ch 2, skip next dc space, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next dc space, ch 2, repeat from * across.
     
  3. Work along bottom edge ch 3, 2 dc in first dc, ch 1, 2 dc in next dc, ch 3, skip 2 chs, * sc in next ch, ch 3, sc in next ch, skip 2 chs, ch 2, 2 dc in next ch, ch 1, 2 dc in next ch, ch 2 skip 2 ch, repeat from * across to last 4 ch, ch 3, skip 2 chs, 2 dc in next ch, ch 1, 2 dc in last ch.
     
  4. Work along side edge ch 3 and continue with opposite side edge matching stitches ending ch 3, join to beginning dc and fasten off.
