Materials:
- 2 skeins Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Orchid
- 2 skeins Red Heart Super Saver yarn in White
- 1 skein Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Petal Pink
- 5.0mm (US H-8) crochet hook, or size needed for gauge
Gauge: 4 rows – 2 ½”; Shell, sc – 2 ¼”
Special Stitch:
- Shell – (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in space or stitch as indicated in instructions.
Instructions:
Afghan Measures: 43” x 53”
Afghan is crocheted in multiples of 8 plus 2.
- Row 1 (RS): With orchid ch 146, sc in 2nd ch from hook, *skip 3 chs, Shell in next ch, skip 3 chs, sc in next ch, repeat from * across, turn.
- Row 2: Ch 6, *sc in ch 1 space of Shell, ch 3, dc in sc, ch 3, repeat from * across to last Shell, sc in ch 1 space of Shell, ch 3, dc in last sc, turn.
- Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first stitch, Shell in next sc, sc in dc between Shells, repeat from * across ending sc in 3rd ch of turning ch, turn.
- Row 4: Ch 6, continue with Row 2, fasten off and turn,
- Row 5: Join white in first stitch, ch 1, sc in same stitch, *Shell in next sc, sc in dc between Shells, repeat from * across ending sc in 3rd ch of turning ch, turn.
Color Scheme
- Continue working Rows 2 – 5 for a total of 83 rows as follows: (4 rows each white, pink, white, orchid, changing color on Row 5) 4 times, 4 rows white, 4 rows pink, 4 rows white, 3 rows orchid. Do not fasten off after last row.
Edging
- Round 1: With orchid work 8 dc in last sc of top edge. Work along side edge [sc in sc space, 7 dc in next sc space] across ending sc in last dc space. Work along bottom edge 8 dc in first sc, [sc in ch below Shell, 7 dc in ch below sc] across ending 8 dc in last sc. Work along side edge as for opposite side edge matching stitches. Work along top edge 8 dc in first sc, [sc in ch 1 space of Shell, 7 dc in next sc] across, join to beginning dc and fasten off.
- Round 2: Work along left side edge (sc, ch 3, sc) in sc, [ch 4, skip 3 dc, sc in next dc, ch 4, skip 3 dc, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next sc] across.
