Simple Crochet Handbag
Are you looking for a new handbag that will transition from spring to summer? This Simple Crochet Handbag is a cute free crochet pattern for bags and is a creative way to add a splash of summer cool to your wardrobe. This purse is a great carryall for everyday use.
Materials:
- 6.0 mm J hook
- 150 yards worsted-weight yarn, color of your choice
Notes:
You can also make variations of this bag using this same pattern. Just add more rows (in the pattern its row 4-10) to create a taller bag. And in the pattern where you're creating the handles, just make more chains to get a longer handle.
Instructions:
chain 35
row 1: sc in 3rd ch from hook
row 2: ch 2, dc scross bottom side of chain (at the end of this row, you should be back where you started in row 1)
row 3: ch 2, dc around
row 4-10: dc around
row 11: dc 10, ch 15, count 10 spaces from opposite side and join with dc. This creates the opening for the
handle.
row 12: 1 dc around and fasten off.

In looking at the pattern and counting the rows, stitches per row, you should have said 70 stiches (35 both side). and make handle on each side so that the bag opens .

Handle should be made on each side of the bag. In looking at the picture and number of rows, I think 70 stitches (35 per side).

Love this! It was so easy to make! I added in some guesswork where there were holes in the pattern, but it turned out great! For row 11 after "join with dc" I dc to the side then dc 10, ch 15, and dc to the side again. Then I did row 12. Hope that helps!

I think that was a typo and is supposed to say "dc across" instead.

I'm just guessing here but can I assume that the first row should read "row 1: sc in 3rd ch from hook and sc across"? Please proofread (and test) before posting.

When I made this, I did not sc across. What they're doing in the pattern there is creating a base for the purse. If you replace the word row with step, it makes the beginning a bit easier to do.

I LOVE the flower on your bag, but when I clicked on the link for the rose pattern it took me to a pattern that looks nothing like your cute flower. I realize the colors are different, but the petal do not look the same at all. Help

I agree with Kathy - very confusing - as well as "row 12: 1 dc around and fo" I think we need a little QC on this pattern posting!

The bag looks real cute. But the instructions are confusing.. row 1: sc in 3rd ch from hook. what about the other 32 chains? do you sc in each chain across? row 2: are you working across the back of the chain, and how many stitches total are there around the bag? row 11: when making the opening of the handle, are there 2 handles or just 1?
