Faux Moss Candlestick Holders
Do you find crystal candlesticks too formal? If you're looking for a more natural approach, try this moss candleholder project. It incorporates faux moss with styrofoam brand foam cones to make a look that can't help but go green.
Materials:
- STYROFOAM™ Brand Foam:
- Cones, 12" x 4", two
- Green sheet moss, two bags
- Green flower-safe spray paint (optional)
- Serrated knife
- Paraffin or candle stub
- Ruler
- Pencil
- STYROFOAM™ brand foam safe spray adhesive
- Low temperature glue gun with glue sticks
- White craft glue
- Two taper candles
Note: Candleholders are for decorative use only.
Steps:
- Wax serrated knife with candle stub or paraffin. Cut 1 1/2" from tip of each foam cone. Cut small hole into center of flat tip, just large enough for base of taper candle. Twist candles into holders and remove.
- Spray foam cone with adhesive, working on small sections at a time; cover with moss, leaving cone base exposed. Let dry completely.
- If a brighter green is preferred, spray paint moss-covered cones with two to three coats of paint; let dry.
- Glue candles into tops of cones. Glue bits of moss around base to hide exposed glue or foam.
