Mosaic Tile Chocolate Box
When giving a homemade gift, the outside should be just as sweet at the inside. Create a Mosaic Tile Chocolate Box from Candace Jedrowicz and give it to a friend, significant other or co-worker. Mosaic craft ideas help take everyday items to an unexpected level.
Materials:
- Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue
- Heart shaped box
- Tile sheet with lots of small tiles
- Craft knife
- Double wheeled tile nippers
- Tile adhesive
- V notched tile adhesive spreader
- Grout
- Paper towels
- Sponge
- Hot glue gun
- Embellishments
Instructions:
-
Seal the box with Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue to protect it from moisture. Allow to dry.
-
Trace the top of your box on the back of the tile sheet and cut out with the craft knife. Include all partial tiles outside the outline. Cut 1 tile width rows to go around the sides of both top lid and bottom box on the outside.
-
Using the tile nippers, clip off the partial tiles outside of the line.
-
Spread an even coat of tile adhesive on top of the box lid using the v notched spreader – you want deep grooves in the glue to help the tiles stick securely.
-
Press your heart shaped sheet of tiles into the glue. Give it a wiggle to assure that there is full contact. For the strips of tile that go on the outsides of top and bottom, spread the glue directly on the back of the tiles. Allow to dry overnight.
-
Mix grout to lotion consistency and spread over all tiles, pushing the grout down into the grooves.
-
When you’ve filled all the grooves, carefully wipe off excess grout with a paper towel. Allow to dry slightly, then use a damp sponge to get the grout off the tile surfaces. Allow to dry overnight.
- Add, trims, gems and other embellishments with hot glue.
