One Minute Yarn Pom Pom

Materials:

• Red Heart with Wool Yarn (1 Skein)
• Red Heart Nylon Cro­chet Thread (Size 18)
• Scis­sors

Instructions:

1. Remove the paper wrap­ping from yarn. Using the nylon thread, cut off a long piece and tie around the cen­ter of the yarn.
   
   
    
2. Flip the yarn over to the oppo­site side and tie the nylon thread around the ball again, this time mak­ing sure to make the tie as tight as you can.
   
   
    
3. Once you’ve made the nylon thread nice and tight, go ahead and make a cou­ple of strong knots. Cut your thread ends short. Now you’re ready to start cut­ting into your pom pom!
   
   
    
4. Start by mak­ing your ini­tial cut as shown, align­ing your scis­sors to cut roughly one-third through the thick­ness of the ball.
   
   
    
5. Once you’ve cut into the yarn, lightly run your fin­gers through the yarn and allow the loose threads to fall sep­a­rate from the rest of the yarn. Be care­ful not to pull too hard on the yarn that is still attached to the rest of the ball.
   
   
    
6. As the yarn starts to fall loose, you’ll notice some loops towards the inside of the ball. Using your scis­sors, cut those loops in half and fluff these out as well. Repeat this process until you feel like you’ve got­ten most of the thread loops snipped in half.
   
   
    
7. Once you have one half of your ball fluffed out and untan­gled, take your hand and make a tight fist around the short­est part of the loose threads as shown. Evenly trim the excess.
   
   
    
8. Repeat steps 3 through 6 on the other half of the pom pom.
    
9. To shape your pom pom, work from the middle-out. Trim evenly by grab­bing a fist full of yarn and cut­ting to the short­est layer.

NOTE: The yarn should gen­er­ally be longer in the mid­dle of your pom pom, so you’ll want to start by trim­ming those threads first.
