Materials List

  • A pair of old jeans
  • Sneakers
  • A blazer or jacket
  • Green socks
  • A thick rope
  • A one-gallon milk jug
  • Green paint
  • Silver pipe cleaners
  • Silver or gray buttons
  • Black fuzzy fabric
  • Cotton batting
  • Glue gun
  • Scissors

Instructions

  1. Cut a milk carton so that the base becomes the top of the head and it fits like a cap. Paint green.

  2. While that's drying, measure and cut some black fuzzy fabric to glue on for the hair. Glue to milk carton with hot glue.

  3. Cut pieces of silver pipe cleaner to make scars on Frankenstein's head. Use the back sides of buttons as bolts. Glue both to head with hot glue.

  4. Cut the bottoms of old jeans into strips about four inches up. Toss in the washing machine so they fray.

  5. Braid the rope to make the belt.

  6. Use a pair of sneakers too small in the toe. Cut out the toes, stuff the toes of green socks with batting, and make sure the toes stick through the shoes when the child wears them.

Why You'll Love This Recycled Craft

1. Budget-Friendly: With Halloween costumes costing more and more each year, making a DIY Frankenstein costume for your child can save you money. Instead of shelling out big bucks for a store-bought costume that your child will likely only wear once, use materials you already have at home to create a unique and fun costume that won't break the bank.

2. Eco-Friendly: By repurposing old clothes and other materials to make this DIY Frankenstein costume, you are helping to reduce waste and lessen your impact on the environment. Instead of throwing out old clothes or plastic milk gallons, give them new life by turning them into a creative Halloween costume that your child will love.

3. Customizable: One of the best parts about making your child's Halloween costume is the ability to customize it to fit their personality and preferences. With this DIY Frankenstein costume, you can paint the milk gallon to look however you want, add fun accessories, and adjust the fit of the jeans to make it perfect for your child. Plus, they'll have a one-of-a-kind costume that no one else will have.
