  1. With MC, cast on 7 sts.

  2. **1st row: (RS). K1. *P1. K1. Rep from * to end of row.
    This row forms seed st pat.

  3. Work a further 3 rows in seed st pat.

  4. Next row: (Buttonhole row). Seed st pat across 3 sts. yo. K2tog. Seed st pat to end of row.

  5. Cont in seed st pat until work from beg measures 5 ins [12.5 cm] ending with RS facing for next row.**

  6. Next row: yo. Pat to end of row.

  7. Next row: yo. Pat to end of row.

  8. Next row: Work even in seed st pat.

  9. Rep last 3 rows to 17 sts.

    Proceed as follows:

  19. Cast off in pat.
