Teeny Tiny Wine Cork Reindeer

"If you have wine corks and twigs from your yard, you can make these teeny tiny wine cork reindeer. Add a hook to hang on your Christmas tree, make a few to march across your mantle, attach them as toppers to gifts, put them into a coffee mug with hot cocoa packets and a candy cane! I tuck them into the stockings for my Santa Claus dolls. Pretty simple to make and you'll love what you have in the end! All the instructions are on my blog."

This project won third place in the Best Ornament Contest 2016! Check out the top ten winners here, and be sure to check out all of the amazing ornament tutorial entries.

Materials List

  • wine corks
  • small straight twigs
  • small forked twigs
  • hot glue
  • razor knife
  • red ball head pin
  • small Christmas items

Instructions

  1. Choose wine corks for body and head. Trim where necessary.

  2. Cut five straight twigs 2" long. Four for legs and one for neck.

  3. Cut two 1" long forked twigs for antlers.

  4. With sharp pointed tool (like an ice pick or nail) put two holes in head cork for antlers.

  5. Use hot glue to place antlers on head.

  6. With same tool put four leg holes in bottom of body cork. Angle the holes slightly for best results.

  7. Use hot glue to place legs in body. Push twigs against hard surface to "seat" them and make sure body stands level on all four legs.

  8. Make a hole at top front of body cork. Angle it slightly so the neck twig leans forward. Use hot glue to place neck twig in hole.

  9. On underside of head cork make a slightly angled hole and use hot glue to attach to neck twig.

  10. Add red ball pin to top front of head cork for nose. Add embellishments to reindeer as desired.

NotesI hope you'll try this project! I was delighted how they came out. The most fiddley part is getting all the leg twigs the same length so the body stands straight. But you can remove the twigs and change their position and even their length to make them work. This little reindeer is worth the effort!
