Ideas for Mobiles
No longer restricted to the kids’ rooms, mobiles are fun and very fashionable in home décor right now. Try your hand at making one yourself with a couple of ideas.
What You Need
Wire - You can use fabric covered floral wire or jewelry wire for hanging lighter items, welding rods (with copper coating), galvanized wire from the hardware store, or even a hanger snipped apart for heavier items.
Needle-nose pliers- You will need these to bend the wire into loops at the ends.
Wire cutter or nipper- For cutting heavier pieces of wire if you are using. Scissors will suffice for floral wire.
Hook- For hanging from the ceiling.
Items to Hang
Felt- Create 3-dimensional felt shapes such as birds, balls or stars and use them in a mobile. You could even create a galaxy. Check out this example.
Magazine Pieces- Make a mobile out of magazine ovals.
Origami- How about an origami goldfish mobile complete with origami instructions? I prefer cranes myself.
Wood or Blocks- Use wooden blocks for the perfect mobile for a child’s room. Other wood shapes can be used for mobile projects. I like the idea of wooden birds.
Have fun!
