Making a Velvet Ribbon Cockade

"Do you ever look at your craft stash and think "I need to use some of this?". That is me all the time. I have a ridiculous amount of ribbon including grosgrain ribbon, satin ribbon, printed ribbon and, of course, velvet ribbon. I was wearing a jacket and thought it needs a little something. This set my crafter's brain thinking about all the wonderful brooches I had seen over the years made with ribbon. I kept going back to the wonderful cockades I saw on hats from 18th century. To create a velvet cockade with a pretty embellishment that was not too hard to make. You have to add a bit of bling to your creation? Don’t you? These style of ribbon cockades use a technique often called ribbon manipulation. With a needle, thread, ribbon, embellishment and clip you are on your way to a pretty adornment to add to your jacket or coat. "
