Baby Block Crochet Blanket
Crochet a beautiful baby blanket with blocks of soft yellow, blue and white with this free crochet baby blanket pattern from Bernat Yarns. The white squares each feature a large star created in the design.

Materials:
- Yarn: Bernat® Baby Coordinates (160 g/5.6 oz) Main Color (MC) (White) 2 balls, Contrast A (Yellow) 1 ball, Contrast B (Aqua) 1 ball
- Crochet Hook: Size 4 mm (U.S. G or 6) or size needed to obtain gauge.
- Find star pattern here
Gauge: 1 square = 6" [15 cm].
Measurements: Approx 32 x 40" [81 x 102 cm].
Pattern:
STAR SQUARE (make 15). With MC, ch 33.
- Foundation row: (RS). 1 dc in 4th ch from hook. 1 dc in each ch to end of ch. 31 dc.
- 2nd row: Ch 3. 1 dc in each of next 6 dc. Ch 1. Miss next dc. 1 dc in each of next 15 dc. Ch 1. Miss next dc. 1 dc in each dc to end of row. Rows 1 and 2 of chart are complete. Beg with row 3, work chart to end of chart reading right side rows from right to left and wrong side rows from left to right, noting each row ends with ch 3. Turn. Omit turning ch at end of last row. Fasten off.
PLAIN SQUARE (make 8 with A; make 7 with B). Ch 33.
- Foundation row: (RS). 1 dc in 4th ch from hook. 1 dc in each ch to end of ch. 31 dc. Ch 3. Turn.
- 2nd row: Miss first dc. 1 dc in each dc to end of row. Ch 3. Turn. Rep last row 12 times more omitting turning ch at end of last row (14 rows total). Fasten off.
Following photo for placement, join squares into 5 strips, 6 squares long alternating Star Square with Plain Square A or B as shown.
Edging:
- 1st rnd: With RS of work facing and MC, join yarn with sl st in any corner. Ch 1. Work 1 rnd sc evenly around blanket working 3 sc in corner sc. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.
- 2nd rnd: Join A with sl st in any corner sc of previous rnd. Ch 3. 1 dc in each sc around working 3 dc in corner sc. Sl st to top of ch 3. Fasten off.
- 3rd rnd: Join MC with sl st in any corner dc of previous rnd. Ch 1. 1 sc in each dc around working 3 sc in corner dc. Sl st to first sc. Fasten off.
- 4th rnd: Join B with sl st in any corner sc of previous rnd. Ch 3. 1 dc in each sc around working 3 dc in corner sc. Sl st to top of ch 3. Fasten off.

Love the blanket, but have no clue what you're trying to do with the stupid chart. It says 31 dc but only shows 15 blocks. You need to write out the directions for those of us who don't read pictures.

I made a similar pattern blanket from the big cat brand and it came out beautiful even though I switched up the colors to suit my own needs (gender and stash wise). I highly recommend giving this blanket a try. I believe you will be pleasantly surprised.

I love the pattern and it is really easy to crochet but I am having a problem putting the squares together. If I use white yarn and slip stitch I don't like the look and if I crochet them together I don't care for the way it looks. What is the best way to put squares together?

Can you please help me? I have printed off the main part of this pattern, but I am trying to "bring up" the pics of the placement blocks of the pattern, ditto also the reading for the chart, I have printed off the star pattern, but everytime I try and do the chart pattern, or the photo placement, it comes up with adverts..... As I do not want or need these adverts, and don't even live in USA, how on earth can I print off these 2 photoes? Help! Ivy

Hi, ivyholmesuk 3771507. I believe you are trying to click on the links for the words "reading" and "photo;" is this assumption correct? If so, these are not image links but are embedded advertisements. Ads on our site are typically sold using contextual technology by large firms such as Google, Vibrant and RGM/Meredith (publisher of Better Homes & Gardens). The only pattern you need to print off is the one that is linked to the words "star pattern" in the materials list. If you have printed that successfully, then you are all set! I think out of the two choices, This is the one I would most likely make. The other pattern has holes that would let little feet and fingers get caught and hurt.

I like the baby block pattern because of the star in the white block. That, and the choice of colors gives it more interest.

I definitely like the block pattern than I do the granny square. I have used both and I just feel that the block pattern works up better and I feel that it is prettier than the granny square pattern.

While I like both patterns, this block pattern looks crisp and clean and sharp! Plus, it's nice to mix things up by using up left over yarn as an alternative.

I like this one better. It is appealing to the eye and while it would be an easy pattern to make, it has the look of something more difficult.

I like the block pattern better. It looks very soft and the pattern looks pretty easy. It also looks brighter and not as busy as the other one.

To mrspatches2345: yes, you are right. Each dark block is 2 dc. Each white block is 1 ch & 1 dc. The 1 ch creates a hole, followed by 1 dc which completes the hole. The holes create the fillet star pattern. Your question was posted almost 5 months ago, so I'm hoping you trusted the pattern and everything turned out all right!

Hi I am trying to make this blanket and I am a ltitle confused with the chart. is it saying that every dark sqaure will be 2 dc and each white square to ch 1 then a dc in dc? it just seems a little odd. if anyone could help me i sure would appreciate it. Thank you so much Carol
