A Note on Baby Blankets
Whenever you see a newborn in a photo, a play, a movie, or a reenactment at your local church, more likely than not, that baby is swaddled in a blanket. Swaddling babies in blankets is a tradition we don’t often think about because we’re surrounded by it in all of our images of newborns. The practice of wrapping a baby in a blanket is a tried and true practice for the baby’s comfort, and it’s an iconic visual we immediately recognize as pertaining to newborns.
Out of all of the images of swaddled newborns, we most often see babies in blue or pink blankets. This tradition dates back to the 1950s. Back then, a medical company named Medline supplied many hospitals around the country with these simple and sweet blankets. Though the company has updated the color scheme on its blankets, Medline still provides these supplies to hospitals. If you look closely on your next visit to maternity ward, you can still see those classic blue and pink blankets that have defined the way we portray and visualize newborns.

This is a great looking Easy One Ball Crochet Baby Blanket and Hat Set pattern. I like that the pattern is right here and I can save this and not have to go looking for the written pattern. This is well written and so easy to follow. I love the purple color used that will brighten up any mood. And purple means royal so make one for the new king or queen in your life. I'll be making a few sets this month for a great gift for the baby showers I have coming up. Thank you so much for sharing this free crochet baby set.

I love projects which require only one ball of yarn. It doesn't get more cost effective than that. Not only can I make a baby blanket, but I can make a matching hat, too! What a cute idea. I love the purple. It's a nice gender neutral color...many parents like to keep the sex of the baby a surprise until the birth of the baby. So with purple, green, yellow or white, you can't go wrong.

Just remember that it's a ONE POUND skein, not a 4-ounce skein.

You guys inspire me. I am curious how large the one came out from dzorbis and how much yarn. Thanks.

I did this blanket but wanted it for a bigger child. So I figured out the counts for the chain base are in 6. So I chained 132 and in step 6 where it says repeat steps 2-5 fifteen more time I did it 22 more times. I will measure and give final dimensions if anyone wants along with total yarn used. I used the Red Heart Baby Hugs yarn in Lavender, the child I'm making it for loves purple.

I save all my left over yarn that is at least a foot long. I keep all the color shades that are more for a baby in one group and other shades in another. I tie them on, end to end. Then when I have the equivalent of one ball of yarn, I make one of these one ball wonders.i made one that came out looking like a rainbow. Only downside is I can't make the exact same one again.

This would be a wonderful project for all my extra skeins left over from completed projects. I always buy extra to be sure that I have enough to finish the project, and I always end up with extra, yet not enough to do another projectuntil now. This is the perfect project, with nothing left over.

I am getting ready to make this my next project and heard there was a pattern correction. What was the correction? I downloaded the corrected pattern and didn't see any difference from the one I printed. Also, at the end of Row 2 on the blanket, the pattern says to put 2 double crochets into the last stitch? Is this correct or did they mean 1 double crochet? Thanks.

I managed to work it out for the 6th row which is in fact the repeat of the 2nd row I think what was confusing is the numbers on the side 1.2.3 which is not the row number Hope this helps others

Very cute baby in the picture, & I'm liking the blanket so far. I'm having trouble though at Row 7, which says "Rows 6 -65" - & says to repeat rows 2-5 fifteen times. Should it be to repeat rows 3-6 fifteen times?

with the HAT ; ROUND 6- I believe the * * is miss placed and it should be *ch 2, 3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 2, skip next 2 dc, sc in next dc** this will also help make round 7 understandable

Ok Im a novice and trying to make this blanket. The directions are confusing me! LOL The repeats * are confusing me- do you do what is before the* again or only between * and **. I have pulled it out twice because neither way seemed to look right. Could someone who has successfully completed this help me out so I can get my new great niece this blanket before she is walking? thanks for your help!
