Easy Curl Hair Bows

Materials:

  • Yarn: Caron International's Simply Soft Brites 1 skein color of your choice
  • Crochet hook size G (4.0 mm)

Instructions:

Crochet chain 14 stitches.
Working in the top loop of each chain work 6 double crochets in the fourth chain from the hook.
Work 7 double crochets in each remaining chain (there should be ten more chains left.)  Keep your hook in the final loop.  You should have a nice curlicue shape.
With the crochet hook in a loop at the top of the curlicue, chain 30 more stitches.
Now you are going to create another curlicue.  Work 6 double crochets in the fourth chain from the hook.
Work 7 double crochets in the next 10 chain stitches.  There should be about 15 chain stitches in between the curlicues.  Use this area to tie around a pony tail.
Cut the yarn off, pull the yarn through the final yarn loop and finish the project by weaving the loose string through the curlicue.

Please note:
You can tie this around a pony tail like a hair bow.
You can make matching curlicue hair bows for pig tails.
If you want a longer curlicue just plan to do the double crochets over a few more chain stitches.   You will need fewer chain stitches if you want a short curlicue.

I love this pattern! It looks so easy, and really easy to modify if you want to. There are so many possibilities for making this for your little girl, or your niece, or any other little girl! I think I will make some of these for my niece for her next birthday. I think she would really like them!

I made these using sc instead of dc and they are just as cute, also I make the chain longer so they can tie it on pony tails.I have been making these for years. Thank you for posting then.

This is supper cute on my Daughter's pig tails. It is a little cumbersome at first, but you will figure it out soon. I suggest that you strongly hold onto the pieces of chain that you haven't crocheted into yet. If you don't, the yarn will stretch too tight for you to crochet into the last few chain stitches.

I have been loooking for this pattern...thank you for posting! Now I just have to find and dust off my crochet hooks and remember how to do it ;) Can't wait to get started!

Wow! my grandmother did this for us when I was little. i will have to make these myself for the little girls.

Kindly explain the instructions more clearly. When you do 6 dc on the 4th chain from the hook and dc on the remaining chains I don't understand how there will be 10 more chains since we start with only 14 chains. Kindly explain in details at the earliest . Thanks you. Usha

I had to think about this for a few min, but when the instructions say to do 6 dc's on the 4th chain from the hook, it means that you are to do 6 dc's into the same 1 chain stitch. Then for the next 10 chain stitches, each will have 7 dc's. It is a little cumbersome at first. It helped me to turn the coin in the other direction from where it wants to go. You can recoil it in the right direction when you are finished. Also make sure that you hold firmly onto the unused chain stitches so you have plenty of room at the end of the chain. I hope this helps. Happy crocheting!!

cute idea...ty:)

I've used these on the top of children's hats. Just add some more chains between the curlicue's and make the curlicue'e a little bit longer. I usually use a size H hook. Cut a piece of yarn about 8" to 10" long the same color as the curliecue. Thread yarn through yarn needle. Put needle, from the inside of hat, directly up through the top of the hat. Take the curliecue and put the center of the chain directly across the top. Go through the chain with needle and back down through the center two times. Take needle off and tie both ends of the yarn together and knot. Cut off remaining yarn.

These hair bows, made in matching yarn together with the Cute Kids Cuffs Bracelet would dress up any outfit for a little girl.

this is great thank you for the memories my mom made when i was younger now i called my mom she said aa friend gave her the patterns now i see you have what i want but do you have one for long hair it is down to her butt thank you so much maria baca

The curly hair bows have many uses. I use them instead of pom poms on slippers and hats. You can even make them longer and tie them into a bow to decorate a package. I made these for my 44 year old daughter when she was young. Thanks for the memories and the great patterns. Jinx
