Light Crochet Hat for Kids
The openwork design of this free hat crochet pattern from Bernat Yarns makes the hat light and comfortable for kids. The hat can be adjusted to fit kid sizes 2-8. Kids will love the bright colors.
Materials:
- Yarn: 1 ball Bernat® Jr. Jacquards (100 g / 3.5 oz) #05620 Orange Juice
- Crochet Hook: Size 4 mm (U.S. G or 6) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.
Sizes:
To fit child sizes 2/4 (6/8).
Gauge:
19 sc and 20 rows = 4" [10 cm].
Pattern:
Note: Ch 4 at beg of rnd counts as dc and ch 1 throughout.
Ch 4. Join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.
1st rnd: Ch 1. 6 sc in ring. Join with sl st in first sc.
2nd rnd: Ch 1. 2 sc in each sc around. Join. 12 sc.
3rd rnd: Ch 1. *2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in next sc. Rep from * around. Join. 18 sc.
4th rnd: Ch 4. *1 dc in next sc. Ch 1. Rep from * around ending with sl st in 3rd ch of ch 4. 36 sts.
5th rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as sl st. 1 sc in each of next 2 sts. *2 sc in next st. 1 sc in each of next 3 sts. Rep from * ending with 2 sc in last ch-1 sp. Join. 45 sts.
6th rnd: Ch 4. Miss next sc. 1 dc in next sc. Ch 1. Miss next sc. *1 dc in next sc. Ch 1. (1 dc in next sc. Ch 1. Miss next sc) twice. Rep from * around to last sc. 1 dc in last sc. Ch 1. Join in 3rd ch of ch 4. 54 sts.
7th rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st around. Join.
8th rnd: Ch 4. Miss next sc. 1 dc in next sc. Ch 1. Miss next sc. *1 dc in next sc. Ch 1. (1 dc in next sc. Ch 1. Miss next sc) 4 times. Rep from * around to last 5 sc. 1 dc in next sc. Ch 1. (1 dc in next sc. Ch 1. Miss next sc) twice. Join in 3rd ch of ch 4. 60 sts.
9th rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as sl st. 1 sc in each of next 2 sts. *2 sc in next st. 1 sc in next 5 sts. Rep from * to last 3 sts. 2 sc in next st. 1 sc in each of last 2 sts. Join. 70 sts.
10th rnd: Ch 4. Miss next sc. 1 dc in next sc. Ch 1. Miss next sc. *1 dc in next sc. Ch 1. (1 dc in next sc. Ch 1. Miss next sc) 3 times. Rep from * around to last 3 sc. (1 dc in next sc. Ch 1) twice. Miss last sc. Join in 3rd ch of ch 4. 80 sts.
11th rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as sl st. 1 sc in each of next 2 sts. *2 sc in next st. 1 sc in each of next 9 (7) sts. Rep from * to last 7 (5) sts. 2 sc in next st. 1 sc in each of last 6 (4) sts. Join. 88 (90) sts.
12th rnd: Ch 4. *Miss next sc. 1 dc in next sc. Ch 1. Rep from * around. Join in 3rd ch of ch 4.
13th rnd: As 7th rnd. Rep last 2 rnds 5 (6) times more.
Edging rnd: Ch 1. (1 sc. Ch 3. 1 dc) all in first sc. *Miss next 2 sc. (1 sc. Ch 3. 1 dc) all in next sc. Rep from *, ending with: miss last 2 sc. Join. Fasten off.

pattern absolutely does not work beginning with round 4. It appears some step is left out.

The best part will be using different yarns, and adding details. Like using sparkling and fuzzy yarns. Plus you can also do this in solid bright colors to match their jackets.
