Rose Pillowcase Bed Caddy
A cross-stitch rose pillowcase becomes a pretty and handy bed caddy in this fun project from Dimensions. Use this caddy to stash books, reading glasses or the remote. You can also use this same concept to create a Rose Chair Caddy.
Materials:
- Pillow cases from kit #72759, one stitched and one not
- One 17" x 2" strip of lightweight fabric for the pocket trim
- One button
- One 15-1/2" x 12" piece of heavy cardboard for the stiffener
Instructions:
Cut off the hems of the pillow cases. Treating both layers as one, cut out the pieces as shown.
Press the pocket trim strip in half by bringing the long edges together. Place the pocket front pieces together with the right sides facing. Sandwich the pocket trim strip between them, aligning the cut edges. Stitch them together with a 1/4" seam. Press the seams open. Turn the front pieces right side out and press.
Make a buttonhole in the pocket, placing it at the midpoint from side to side.
When working with the stiffener cover and the backing, treat both pieces as one. To finish one 17" edge of the stiffener cover, press it 1/4" to the wrong side two times. Sew through all layers. Placing the right sides together and using a 1/2" seam, sew the pocket and the stiffener cover to the to the backing.
Trim the seam allowances at the corners and turn right side out. Press the seams. Attach the button to the backing, aligning it with the buttonhole. At the sides, turn the exposed seam allowances under and stitch in place. Insert the cardboard under the stiffener cover. Slide the stiffener between your box spring and mattress.

What a great idea, and so easy to make. I'm sure this could be adapted to make use of fabric we might have on hand, too.
