Paint and Stamp Treasure Box
Hide your treasures in this stylish wood box, stamped with rubber stamps and painted an eye-catching purple. The dragonfly embellishment is a great touch. Tiffany Windsor of Inspired at Home shows us how.
You can also listen to this project as you craft, read by Tiffany Windsor.
Materials:
- Wood box with lid
- Acrylic paint – purple, lilac, lavender
- Brush – ½” flat
- Rubber stamps – bold border, large icon, words or designs of your choice
- Embellishments of your choice
- Aleene’s® Platinum Bond Glass & Bead Slick Surfaces Adhesive
- Waxed paper
- Wet wipes
- Cosmetic sponges
Instructions:
- Paint outside, inside, top and bottom of box. Let dry completely.
- Pour small puddle of acrylic paint onto waxed paper. Dip flat end of cosmetic sponge into paint and “tap, tap, tap” the sponge to the side of the paint puddle to distribute the paint evenly on the sponge. Tap sponge onto border stamp, covering entire design with paint. Let paint set for approximately 1 minute. This seasons the stamp and helps the paint to stick better to the slick surface of the rubber stamp. Reapply second coat of paint. Position stamp and stamp onto box. (At this time, if you are not happy with the stamped image, no problem! Just take a wet wipe and wipe it off right away. Dry the surface with a paper towel and try it again.)
- Repeat applying paint to stamp until entire rim of box is stamped. On this particular box, the top insert is removable so it is easier to keep border stamp from overstamping onto other areas. If you do not have a box with insert, just use blue painter’s tape to mask off any areas that you do not want to stamp. Wipe rubber stamp with wet wipe to remove all excess paint. Repeat process for large icon design. Let dry.
- Glue embellishments in place on top of box. Let dry.
Tiffany’s Designer Tip: Don’t forget that the inside of your box deserves a special touch too! On the inside lid of this box, I repeated the large icon design and then stamped affirmation words along the outside edge.
