Hidden Message Frame
Create a personal and meaningful gift or home decor piece for someone you care about. A Hidden Message Frame can be made with easy-to-find craft foam letters. Easy home decor crafts like this can add a fun touch to an otherwise unexciting space.
Materials:
- Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue
- Wood frame
- Craft foam sticky alphabet letters
- Pencil and ruler
- Toothpick
- Acrylic paint (bright color of your choice plus white for dry brushing and yellow for dry brushing “hidden” letters)
- Paint brush
- Paper towel
- Optional: drill with small drill bit, 18 gauge wire, wire cutters, craft foam sticky flowers and leaves
Instructions:
-
Measure alphabet letters and draw pencil lines across front of frame slightly larger than letters. This will help to keep the spacing lined up when gluing in place.
-
Before you start any gluing, determine placement of the alphabet letters by laying them in place on frame, using pencil lines as guide. If desired, follow the alphabet and repeat across the frame or add in special “hidden” words.
-
Remove paper backing from letter. With a toothpick, apply Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue to the back of the letter. This gluing step will help to hold these letters in place permanently during the painting process. Let glue dry.
-
Brush paint over entire surface of the frame and letters. Let dry.
-
To dry brush, dip clean brush into white paint. Brush excess paint off onto a paper towel. With a light brush stroke, brush white paint over all letters. Let dry.
-
If you have included words into your alphabet letters layout, use another color of acrylic paint in dry brush method to highlight those words (in this example I used yellow to highlight the words “I love you”.)
-
If desired, you can add flowers along the top of your frame. Glue lengths of wire between two flowers. Glue two leaves onto stem. Set aside to dry.
-
Drill several holes along the top of the frame, spacing to accommodate several flowers side-by-side.
- Dip ends of flower wires into glue and insert in drilled holes. Let dry.
