Such a pretty idea. My friend made a bird feeder form a cup and saucer mounted on an iron rod then embedded in the ground. I am wondering if the bottom vase part could be planted in the ground part way for more stability. Using a brand like anchor glass would work better than some of the fragile types. The antique carnival glass would work well I think, but then again, I might be worried about breaking something vintage. Fun and pretty, even as an inside food platter!

Oh no. This is such a beautiful bird bath. I love bird bath but I have not found any new ones lately because I wanted something different. This will allow me to create my own and never thought to use old vases and saucers. Is there any one glass glue that works better than the rest? And I am glad someone commented to anchor or put sand in before gluing plate on top.Has anyone tried this yet to see if the sand is heavy enough? Thank You for the great idea.

This is such an elegant little bird bath and it will make the birds happy. Just be sure to anchor this well or fill the vase with sand before gluing on the plate so it doesn't tip over with all the splashing. I imagine this would also be beautiful in milk glass or even with a pretty china plate for the topper.
