Graduation Gift in a Jar

Materials:

  • Recycled spice jar with lid
  • Black felt
  • Embroidery floss (in school colors)
  • Button (to match floss)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors

Instructions:

  1. Cut a square of felt big enough to overlap the lid of the jar by 1/2" on all sides.
     
  2. Cut a strip of black felt and hot glue it to fit around the outside rim of the lid.
     
  3. Hot glue the square of felt to the top of the lid.
     
  4. Wrap embroidery floss around four fingers several times, cut loops at both ends.
     
  5. Gather ends and hot glue to the center of the felt "cap" then hot glue the button on top to cover the floss ends.
     
  6. Insert gift, such as a check, cash, or other item inside the jar and attach lid.

This is a fabulous idea and so cheap to make. As Sissie Sass says, you rarely see crafts for graduation. While I think a check or cash would be great gifts to put in the jar, my preference would be to insert a meaningful note or poem - something very personal to the graduate.

You never see any crafts out there for graduation, especially those that are for gift giving. I love how you thought outside of the box to make it a craft that fits the theme and it makes it so much more fun for the recipient. Thanks for posting a neat idea.
