Embellished Floppy Hat
Transform a plain, purchased hat by embellishing with beads, tape and thread. Discover your own funky summer style, and wear your art out!
Materials:
- Purchased floppy hat
- Kreinik #12 Braid metallic thread in colors to match your hat (we used 014HL and 100)
- Treasure Tape 4" x 6" sheet
- Treasure Tape circles
- Diamond Beadlets®
- Shallow pan or tray to catch the beadlets
Steps:
-
Use scraps of paper to make templates of any designs already printed on the hat. Trace onto the Treasure Tape sheet and cut out. Attach to the hat (or you can simply place the Treasure Tape circles all over the hat).
-
Peel back the red liner to expose sticky tape.
- Begin thread embellishing: trace the outline of the printed pattern, write your name ir create any design on the sticky tape. 4. When thread decorating is complete, cover all remaining sticky areas with Diamond Beadlets®.
Tips: When applying "stringy embellishments" like ribbon, embroidery threads and fibers to double-sided Treasure Tape, you can easily pull up the design and start again if you make a mistake or want to try a different design. When using red liner Treasure Tape it is best to cut with Teflon® coated scissors -- or use adhesive remover to wipe the residue off your scissors.
Kreinik threads available through needlework stores or www.kreinik.com.
