Pansy Teapot Cozy
Crochet a pretty teapot cozy bursting with colorful pansies. This tea cozy crochet pattern from Lily Sugar n' Cream is a great way to decorate your kitchen table and store your delicate teapot. Coordinate this tea cozy with the Pansies Bouquet or the Pansy Dishcloth and Pot Holder.
Materials:
- Yarn: Lily® Sugar’n Cream (Solids: 70.9 g / 2.5 oz)
Main Color (MC) (00082 Jute) 2 balls
Contrast A (00071 Grape) 1 ball
Contrast B (00093 Soft Violet) 1 ball
- Crochet Hook: Size 4 mm (U.S. G or 6) crochet hook or size needed to obtain tension
- Small quantity of yellow yarn
Gauge: 14 sc and 15 rows = 4 ins [10 cm].
Instructions:
Pansy:
Pansy I (Make 6)
With A, ch 4. Join with sl st to form a ring.
1st rnd: Ch 1. (2 sc in ring. Ch 2) 5 times. Join with sl st to first sc. Break A.
2nd rnd: Join B with sl st to any ch 2 sp. Ch 2. (2 hdc. Ch 3. 1 sl st in first ch – Picot made. 3 hdc) all in same ch 2 sp. [Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. (3 hdc. Picot. 3 hdc) all in next ch 2 sp] twice. [Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. (1 hdc. 9 dc. 1 hdc) all in next ch 2 sp] twice. Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. Join with sl st to top of ch 2. Fasten off.
Pansy II (Make 3)
Work as given for Pansy I substituting A for B and B for A.
With yellow yarn, embroider center of Pansy using bullion st as illustrated below.
Tea Cozy:
Note: To change color, work to last 2 loops on hook. Draw loop in next color through 2 loops on hook to complete st and proceed in next color.
Make 2 pieces alike.
With MC, ch 38.
1st row: (RS). 1 dc in 4th ch from hook (counts as 2 dc). 1 dc in each ch to end of ch. 36 dc. Turn.
2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each dc to end of row. Turn.
3rd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first sc. 1 sc in next sc.
*[Yoh and draw up a loop around post of next st 2 rows below inserting hook from right to left. (Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice - 1 dcfp made] 3 times. 1 sc in each of next 4 sc. Rep from * to last 5 sc. (1 dcfp) 3 times. 1 sc in each of last 2 sc. Turn.
4th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st to end of row. Turn. Rep last 2 rows 9 times more.
Shape Top: 1st row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 2 sc. *(1 dcfp) 3 times. 1 sc in next sc. *Yoh and draw up a loop in each of next 2 sc. Yoh and draw through all 3 loops on hook - sc2tog made. 1 sc in next sc. Rep from * to last 5 sc. (1 dcfp) 3 times. 1 sc in each of last 2 sc. Turn.
2nd and alt rows: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st to end of row. Turn.
3rd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 2 sc. *(1 dcfp) 3 times. 1 sc in next sc. Sc2tog over next 2 sts. Rep from * to last 5 sc. (1 dcfp) 3 times. Sc2tog over last 2 sts. Turn.
5th row: Ch 1. Sc2tog over first 2 sts. *(1 dcfp) 3 times. Sc2tog over next 2 sts. Rep from * to last 4 sc. (1 dcfp) 3 times. 1 sc in last sc. Turn.
7th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first sc. *(1 dcfp) 3 times. Miss next sc. Rep from * to last 4 sc. (1 dcfp) 3 times. 1 sc in last sc. Turn.
9th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first sc. *(Yoh and draw up a loop around post of next st 2 rows below inserting hook from right to left. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice. Yoh and draw through all 3 loops on hook - 1 dcfp2tog made. Rep from * to last st. 1 sc in last st. Fasten off.
Sew Front and Back tog leaving openings for spout and handle.
Sew Pansy Motifs at top of Tea Cosy as illustrated.
