Ridge Tea Cozy
Keep the pot of tea warm and protect your delicate teapot when storing with this lovely ridge tea cozy. This tea cozy knitting pattern from Lily Sugar n' Cream includes a small size for the average 2-cup tea pot and a large size for the 6-cup tea pot.
Materials:
- Yarn: Lily Sugar’n Cream (Solids: 2.5 oz/70.9 g / Ombres: 2 oz/56.7 g)
Small Tea Cozy 1 ball Solids or Ombres
Large Tea Cozy 2 balls Solids or Ombres
- Knitting Needles: Size 4.50 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension
- Crochet Hook: 3.75 mm (U.S. F/5) crochet hook for tab.
Sizes:
Small Tea Cozy to fit average 2 cup tea pot
Large Tea Cozy to fit average 6 cup tea pot
Gauge: 19 sts and 32 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with 4.50 mm needles in pat.
Glossary: Tw2R = knit into front of 2nd st on left hand needle, then knit into front of 1st st, slipping both sts off needle together.
Instructions:
SMALL TEA COZY (Make 2 pieces alike)
Cast on 36 sts.
**1st row: (Wrong side). K3. *P2. K5. Rep from * to last 5 sts. P2. K3.
2nd row: K3. *Tw2R. K5. Rep from * to last 5 sts. Tw2R. K3.**
Rep last 2 rows until work from beg measures 3 ins [8 cm] ending with right side facing for next row.
***Shape top: 1st row: K3. *Tw2R. K3. K2tog. Rep from * to last 5 sts. Tw2R. K3.
2nd row: K3. *P2. K4. Rep from * to last 5 sts. P2. K3.
3rd row: K3. *Tw2R. K4. Rep from * to last 5 sts. Tw2R. K3.
4th row: As 2nd row.
5th row: As 3rd row.
6th row: As 2nd row.
7th row: K3. *Tw2R. K2. K2tog. Rep from * to last 5 sts. Tw2R. K3.
8th row: K3. *P2. K3. Rep from * to end of row.
9th row: K3. *Tw2R. K3. Rep from * to end of row.
10th row: As 8th row.
11th row: K1. K2tog. *Tw2R. K1. K2tog. Rep from * to end of row.

16th row: K1. *P2tog. K1. Rep from * to end of row. 11 sts. Break yarn leaving a long end. Draw end through rem sts and fasten securely.
Sew 2 pieces tog with a 1-1/2 ins [4 cm] seam at lower edge and a 2 ins [5 cm] seam from top.
Tab: With crochet hook, ch 12. Fasten off. Join in ring at top of Tea Cosy.
LARGE TEA COZY (Make 2 pieces alike)
Cast on 50 sts.
Work from ** to ** as given for Small Tea Cosy.
Rep last 2 rows until work from beg measures 4-1/2 [11.5 cm] ending with right side facing for next row.
Work from *** to *** as given for Small Tea Cosy.
16th row: K1. *P2tog. K1. Rep from * to end of row. 15 sts. Break yarn leaving a long end. Draw end through rem sts and fasten securely. Sew 2 pieces tog with a 1-1/2 [4 cm] seam at lower edge and a 2 ins [5 cm] seam from top.
