Stripe Teapot Cozy and Egg Cozies
For a sweetly coordinating breakfast table, knit a teapot cozy with delicate stripes and matching egg cozies from Lily Sugar n' Cream. Keep breakfast warm and use the cozies for safer, dust-free storage. This easy knitting pattern creates a teapot cozy to fit a standard 6-cup tea pot.
Materials:
- Yarn: Lily® Sugar’n Cream (70.9 g/2.5 oz)
Main Color (MC) (00083 Cornflower Blue) 2 balls
Contrast A (00001 White) 1 ball
Contrast B (01712 Hot Green) 1 ball
- Knitting Needles: Size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension.
Gauge: 20 sts and 26 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.
Instructions:
Tea Cozy (Make 2 pieces alike)
With MC, cast on 49 sts.
1st row: (RS). K1. *P1. K1. Rep from * to end of row. This row forms seed st pat.
Work a further 5 rows in seed st pat. With A, work 2 rows in stocking st.
Next row: (RS). With MC, knit. With MC, work 3 rows in seed st pat. With B, work 2 rows in stocking st.
Next row: (RS). With MC, knit.
With MC, cont in seed st pat until work from beg measures 6½ ins [16.5 cm], ending with a WS row.
Proceed as follows:
1st row: *K4. K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 41 sts.
2nd and alt rows: Purl.
3rd row: *K3. K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 33 sts.
5th row: *K2. K2tog. Rep from * to last st. 25 sts.
7th row: *K1. K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 17 sts.
9th row: *K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 9 sts.
10th row: Purl. Break yarn leaving a long end. Draw yarn through rem sts and fasten securely.
FINISHING
Sew side and top seams, leaving openings for handle and spout.
Twisted Cord: Cut 2 strands of MC 12 ins [30.5 cm] long. Hold one end and with someone holding other end, twist strands to the right until they begin to curl. Fold the 2 ends tog and tie in a knot so they will not unravel. The strands will now twist themselves tog. Adjust length if desired. Sew loop to top of Tea Cozy.
Egg Cozy
With MC or A, cast on 33 sts.
Work in seed st pat for 2 ins [5 cm] ending with a WS row.
Shape top: 1st row: *K2. K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 25 sts.
2nd and alt rows: Purl.
3rd row: *K1. K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 17 sts.
5th row: *K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 9 sts. Break yarn leaving a long end.
Draw yarn through rem sts and fasten securely. Sew side seam.
With MC or A, work blanket st around bottom as illustrated.
