Can't afford a vacation to the beach? Bring the calming blue waters to you with this fabric craft t-shirt from I Love to Create. This shirt is just too cool, so make it today!
Materials:
- Tulip® One-Step Fashion Dye™
- Turquoise
- Blue
- Tulip® Surface Cover™
- T-shirts – gray (guy’s) and white (girl’s)
- Fishnet and lace yardage
- Small spray bottle
- Paper towels
Steps:
Guy Shirt
- Wash gray T-shirt to remove sizing then dry in dryer; do not use fabric softener.
- Cover work surface with Surface Cover. Place shirt right side down on prepared surface and smooth flat. Cover right shoulder with fishnet piece as shown, spreading netting for more open spaces then smoothing flat onto shirt.
- Wearing gloves from dye box, fill Blue dye bottle with water to line indicated. Replace cap tightly then shake bottle until dye is thoroughly mixed. Carefully pour dye into spray bottle and shake again.
- Start spray on paper towels then spray over netting as shown. Hold bottle about 12” above shirt then lightly mist, working over sections several times – a heavy single spray may seep under netting.
- Carefully remove netting, flip over shirt, position netting in place then repeat dye step.
- Cover T-shirt with Surface Cover and let set 4 to 6 hours. Wash in washing machine on a large load setting with a small amount of laundry soap. Dry in dryer.
Girl Shirt
- Wash white T-shirt to remove sizing; do not use fabric softener.
- Cover work surface with Surface Cover. Place damp T-shirt on prepared work surface. Wearing gloves from dye box, add water to Blue dye bottle then shake thoroughly to mix.
- Squeeze Blue dye onto lower half of shirt as shown. Cover shirt with Surface Cover and let set 4 to 6 hours. Wash in washing machine on a large load setting with a small amount of laundry soap. Dry in dryer.
- Place dry shirt on clean Surface Cover. Position lace on top half of shirt as shown then press to flatten onto shirt.
- Wearing gloves from dye box, fill Turquoise dye bottle with water then shake thoroughly to mix.
- Fill clean spray bottle with dye. Start spray on paper towel then spray over lace. Hold bottle about 12” above shirt then lightly mist, working over sections several times – a heavy single spray may seep under lace. Carefully remove lace.
- Cover T-shirt with Surface Cover and let set 4 to 6 hours. Wash in washing machine on a large load setting with a small amount of laundry soap. Dry in dryer.

Love this idea. Simple and easy to do. Great to lay a plastic drop cloth out in the yard on a spring day and grab your materials and have fun in the sun. You could even give your daughter a birthday party where everyone brings a T-Shirt and they all decorate them outside.
