Denim and Lace Flip Flops

Flip flops are super inexpensive and great for craft projects! You can usually pick up a pair for under $5.00 and embellish to your heart's content. With this pair, I used some recycled denim from old jeans I've been saving.  This particular pair of jeans had been dyed purple, so I chose purple flip flops. You can use whatever color you like.

Materials:

• Pair of flip flops
• Denim
• Lace doily or lace
• Scissors
• E6000 adhesive
• Marker

Instructions:

1. Cut denim into rectangles big enough to drape over the top of your flip flops and cover the straps. Turn the flip flop upside down and use a marker to trace the outline of the straps.
   
   
    
2. Cut around the marker line, leaving about an inch all the way around the marker line. Use scissors to clean up the edges, rounding them as you go.
   
   
    
3. Cut the outer edge of the doily off. If using lace, cut enough to cover the full length of the shoe's straps.
   
   
    
4. To fray the edges of the denim, use scissors to add small snips all the way around. It helps to loosen the fabric allowing you to fray more easily. You can fray it by pulling at strands with your fingers. I also found it helpful to drag the edge of the scissors along the fabric.
   
   
    
5. Position your lace along the center of the denim and glue in place with E6000.
   
   
    
6. Glue the denim to the flip flop straps and allow to dry overnight before wearing them.
