I Love You Valentine's Day Card
Send the one you love a Valentine's Day greeting with this cute I Love You Valentine's Day Card from Maria Chatzi. Made from lots of recycled materials, including toilet paper rolls and felt scraps, this handmade card is inexpensive and easy to create. This would also be a great project for kids to do in the classroom. Make this cute card for anyone you love!
Materials:
- Two toilet paper tubes
- Square piece of thin lace (2.3 x 2.3 inches), any design, color: white
- Square piece of thick craft paper (2.3 x 2.3 inches), color: red
- Square piece of craft felt (2.75 x 2.75 inches), color: red
- Piece of thick craft paper (8.6 x 5.5 inches), color: white
- Scissors
- Glue
- Measuring tape or ruler
- Toothpick
- Pencil
- Red pen or red marker
Instructions:
-
Cut out a heart shape from your white lace.
-
Now cut out another heart shape from your square piece of red craft paper (the same size as the lacy heart you’ve just cut).
-
Glue the white lacy heart onto the red paper heart. Wait for the glue to dry completely.
-
To continue, spread one of the two toilet paper tubes open (for this, follow the seam). Cut a square piece (2.7 x 2.7 inches). Glue the red and white lacy heart on top of this square toilet paper tube piece. Allow time for the glue to dry.
-
Use your pencil to draw another, bigger heart, forming a strip around the red and white lacy one. Make it as big as your square paper piece allows you to. Then cut out the whole design from the paper square.
-
Now make a fringe (it shouldn’t be dense) all around your heart, with your scissors. Use the tooth pick to make the toilet paper tube fringe curly.
-
After you’ve finished with the curls, glue your heart with the curly fringe onto the red craft felt square. Wait till the glue dries.
-
When the glue has hardened, fold the thick white craft paper in half, to make your Valentine card. Turn your card to its front side and glue the craft felt square onto it. You should leave less space at the top and the left side of your card.
-
To continue, take the second toilet paper tube, spread it open (following the seam, as before) and cut two thin strips - the length of each has to be a little bigger than the size as the width of your Valentine card. Also, draw with your pencil and cut out 2 hearts, a medium sized and a smaller one (Make these hearts a different design than your focal heart).
-
Glue one of the paper strips at the top and one at the bottom of the card. Trim your strips to the right length. Glue the paper hearts on the paper strips, as shown in my design (top right corner and centered at bottom strip). Wait for the glue to dry.
-
And, now, the final touch: Take your red pen/marker and write a short message in the space left on the right – you can copy mine, if you like.
- Write a longer message inside and your handcrafted Valentine Heart Card is ready for that very special person in your life.
TIP: Before gluing your red and white lacy heart design onto the red felt square, you can add a second fringe, with longer curls this time , for a more interesting 3d design. You could also choose craft paper (instead of toilet paper tube) of a different color for this second strip – like, white or gold for contrast.
