Materials:
- Aleene's® Fabric Stiffener and Draping Liquid
- Crochet doilies
- Plastic zip bags (quart size or larger)
- Bowl (to fit inside your doily)
- Plastic wrap
- Foam board (or other soft surface to stick straight pins into)
- Straight pins
Instructions:
-
Select doily to fit over outside of bowl with at least 1/2" - 1" overhang.
-
Cover bowl with plastic wrap.
-
Cover foam board with plastic wrap.
-
Pour Aleene's Fabric Stiffener into zip bag.
-
Insert doily into bag. Squish bag to saturate doily. (NOTE: you can add acrylic paint to fabric stiffener if you want to colorize the doily.)
-
Remove doily from bag using ridged zip edge to squeeze excess stiffener from doily.
-
Place bowl face down on foam board. Arrange doily exactly how you would like for it to drape.
-
Use pins to hold doily edges in place while it dries. Let dry in place overnight. (Drying time depends on humidity.)
-
Remove stiffened doily from bowl.
-
Remove plastic wrap from bowl and place inside doily. Fill with favorite cupcake or sweet treats.

Simply vintage and sweet! I would definetly colorize my doilies. I am partial to a mint green and a rose color combination. Not both colors together, but make several of each color. I would decorate my table with a beautiful retro floral table cloth in pastel colors, too. I'll add Jordon almonds and pastel buttermints for my guests!

This is a really vintage and shabby chic look that imlove! Reminds me of the little May Day baskets we swapped as kids! Another variation would be to sew on tiny seed pearl beads here and there for an extra dose of prettiness! Lovely and nostalgic project!
