Hanging Fabric Hearts Wall Decor
Create some DIY wall decorations that have a vintage look about them with this Hanging Fabric Hearts Wall Decor project from Tiffany Windsor. You'll love learning how to make hearts out of fabric and then stringing them on an old pants hanger. Projects with fabric come in all shapes and sizes, and this one certainly takes the cake. In a matter of a few steps, you can create your own DIY wall decor that looks store-bought. You'll have a heart full of love when you see this ornament hanging against your wall.
Materials:
- Aleene's Fabric Fusion Permanent Dry Cleanable Fabric Adhesive
- Aleene's Original Tacky Glue
- White copy paper (5 sheets)
- Fabric scraps (thick, bulky, textured, cotton, linen)
- White copy paper (5 pieces for five layered heart)
- Scissors
- Wax paper
- Squeegee (expired plastic gift card or cardboard)
- Button(s)
- Ribbon
- Sticky words and phrases
- Wood pants hanger or hanger of choice
Instructions:
-
Cut copy paper in half crosswise. Layer 5 pieces and fold in half lengthwise.
-
Cut free-hand heart pattern.
-
Separate pattern layers - keep one pattern full size. Cut away 3/8" from next pattern layer. Repeat until you have 5 nesting heart patterns.
-
Cut piece of scrap fabric slightly larger than largest heart pattern. (I like to use felt for this layer.) Fold in half and lay folded pattern along fold line. Cut out heart pattern.
-
Repeat to cut fabric for each heart layer and stack layered pieces.
-
Cut wax paper into several pieces.
-
Pour glue onto one piece of waxed paper.
-
Glue heart layers together using squeegee to apply glue to the back of fabric heart pieces.
-
When all layers are glued together, place clean piece of wax paper over top and press with finger. Remove wax paper and set aside to dry.
-
Using Aleene's Original Tacky Glue, glue button on front and glue piece of ribbon on back. Let dry.
-
Stick word(s) and/or phrases onto front of heart.
- Repeat to create different sizes of hearts and hang and/or glue on hanger.
