How to Sew Lace: Cut it Properly!

For many projects, just a hint of lace can transform the free sewing pattern from something simple to something truly elegant. The problem with sewing with lace is that it can be much more difficult than some other fabrics. Lace (and netting for that matter) is a delicate detail that needs to be treated well. Usually, sewing lace doesn’t take any extra skills unless you are working with something intricate and delicate. In fact, the physical sewing of the lace project is not what you need to worry about. Learning how to sew lace properly comes down to cutting it properly.

Since lace can fray and consequently fall apart, you need to make sure you allow more of a seam allowance with lace. This was if your edges fray, you have some room to work with up to your stitch. This can expand a lace sewing project’s lifetime by a long while. Additionally, be sure to cut around the edges of the intricacies and designs in your lace. Since these denser portions are more likely to fray, try to keep them intact as much as possible.
