Materials List

  • plain brown kraft paper
  • blue painter’s tape
  • 4" dense foam roller
  • paint
  • Otomi Craft stencil

Instructions

  1. Erika purchased plain brown kraft paper and rolled it out on a smooth surface like her dining room table. Then she positioned the stencil design on the kraft paper. You can secure the stencil in place using painter’s tape (if necessary) or spray adhesive.

  2. Erika applied spray adhesive to the back of the stencil. We like to use Sticky Note spray adhesive which can be purchased on Amazon. Then she placed the stencil on the top of the paper.

  3. She poured her blue craft paint onto a small paint tray. Then she lightly coated her dense foam roller with paint. Be sure to roll off the excess paint onto your folded paper towel. The key to stenciling is using as little paint as possible. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed and smudge.

  4. Once the entire design was painted, she lifted the stencil back to reveal the eye-catching Otomi pattern.

  5. Erika wanted to stencil a large sheet of paper so she could wrap multiple gifts. To do so, she needed to reposition the stencil and continue to paint the pattern on the entire kraft paper.

  6. She ended up stenciling the pattern in pink, yellow, and blue. Using left over paper, she crafted bows to match
