Starry Night Afghan

This beautiful Starry Night Afghan from Roseanna Beck would make a lovely addition to any living room or bedroom.  This afghan uses simple crochet stitches and techniques, so it's great for those who are new to crochet or are looking for easier patterns.

Materials:

• Rnds 1 and 2 – floral center - 3 yds. 4 ply yarn for each motif  (A)
• Rnds 3 and 4 – 480 yds. 4-ply yarn (8 ¼ yds. for each motif) (B)
• 460 yds. Black Red Heart 4 ply yarn
• H and I crochet hooks or size needed for gauge
• Yarn Needle

SIZE:  41” x 48”

GAUGE:  Motif measures 5 ¾” x 6 ½”

STITCH GUIDE:  Chain (ch), Single Crochet (sc), Double Crochet (dc), Slip Stitch (sl st)

Instructions:

Motifs (Make 58)

1. Rnd 1 – With A (floral color) and H hook ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join to beg sc.
    
2. Rnd 2 – Ch 3, dc in same sp, *ch 2, 2 dc in next sc, rep from * around, join to top of beg ch 3 and fasten off.
    
3. Rnd 3 – With I hook join B (color) with a sl st in any ch 2 sp, ch 2, (dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in same sp, *ch 1, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch 2 sp, rep from * around, join to top of beg ch 2.
    
4. Rnd 4 – Sl st into ch 3 sp, (sc, ch 3, sc) in same sp, *ch 3, sc in next ch 1 sp, ch 3, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch 3 sp, rep from * around, join to beg sc and fasten off.
    
5. Rnd 5 – Join black with a sl st in any corner ch 3 sp, ch 2, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in same sp, *ch 3, sc in sc, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in ch 3 corner sp, rep from * around, join to top of beg ch 2 and fasten off.

1. With black whipstitch motifs together as shown on diagram.

1. With I hook and black starting at upper right corner join with a sl st in sc, ch 2, (dc, ch 3, 2 dc)   in same sp,  sc in next dc, ch 3, skip 1 dc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch 3 sp, ch 3, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc, (2  dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next sc, *sc in next dc, ch 3, (sc, ch 2, sc) in joining, ch 3, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next sc, sc in next dc, ch 3, skip 1 dc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next ch 3 sp, ch 3, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next sc, rep from * around as established, join to top of beg ch 2 and fasten off.
