Materials:
- 2 skeins Red Heart Classic yarn in Jockey Red
- 2 skeins Red Heart Classic yarn in White
- 2 skeins Red Heart Classic yarn in Emerald
- 4.5mm (US G-6) or size needed for gauge
Gauge: 6 rows – 3 ¾”; Shell, sc, shell, sc – 3 ¼”
Special Stitch:
- Shell – 5 dc in space or stitch as indicated.
Instructions:
Scarf Measures: 8” x 57”
Note: Scarf is worked in multiples of 6 plus 2.
- Row 1 (RS): With red ch 32, sc in 2nd ch from hook, *skip 2 chs, Shell in next ch, skip 2 chs, sc in next ch, repeat from * across, fasten off and turn.
- Row 2: Join white in first stitch, ch 3, dc in same stitch,*ch 1, sc in center dc of Shell, ch 1, dc in first dc of next Shell, ch 1, working in front of dc just made, dc in last dc of previous Shell, repeat from * across to last Shell, ch 1, sc in center dc of last Shell, ch 1, 2 dcs in sc of previous row, turn.
- Row 3: Ch 3, 2 dc in same stitch, *sc in next sc, Shell in ch 1 space between next 2 crossed dc, repeat from * across ending last repeat with sc in last sc, 3 dc in top of turning ch, fasten off and turn.
- Row 4: Join emerald in first stitch, sc in same stitch,*ch 1, dc in first dc of next shell, ch 1, working in front of dc just made, dc in last dc of previous Shell, repeat from * across ending last repeat with ch 1, sc in top of turning ch, turn.
- Row 5: Ch 1, sc in same stitch, *Shell in ch 1 space between next 2 crossed dc, sc in next sc, repeat from * across, fasten off and turn.
Color Scheme
- Continue repeating Rows 2-5 for pattern for a total of 97 rows as follows: (2 rows red, 2 rows white, 2 rows emerald) 15 more times, 2 rows red.
Edging
- With white work along top edge and wrong side facing (sc, ch 2, sc) in first sc, *ch 2, sc in center dc of Shell, ch 2, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next sc, repeat from * across ending (sc, ch 2, sc) in last sc and fasten off.
- With green work along bottom edge and wrong side facing (sc, ch 2, sc) in first sc, *ch 2, sc in ch below Shell, ch 2, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch below sc, repeat from * across ending (sc, ch 2, sc) in last sc and fasten off.

Totally agree with this being a super white elephant gift. Yes it is novelty, but there is something very smart looking about this holiday scarf that appeals to most people. I have always wanted to make a holiday, novelty yarn scarf. I can start with this one. Perhaps add a metallic yarn into the mix!

This pattern works up quickly enough that you could easily make up a nice scarf in an afternoon. I havent tried the edging yet, but I found no problems with the scarf section of the pattern, other than I think there should be a ch 1 after joining emerald on row 4. I really like how the even rows create the criss-cross look to the bottom of the shells.

row 4 does not work out right, i think sc in top of shell is missing, please check
