Christmas Split Shell Ripple Afghan

- 1 skein Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo yarn in Paddy Green
- 1 skein Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo yarn in Jockey Red
- G and H crochet hooks or size needed for gauge
Gauge: With H hook 8 dcs – 2 1/4”, 4 rows – 2 3/4”
Special Stitches:
- Shell – 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in the same stitch
- Split Shell (Spl Sh) – dc, ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, dc
Instructions:
Afghan measures 45” x 60”

Row 1 – With green and H hook ch 152, dc in 5th ch from hook, dc in each of next 6 ch, *Shell in next ch, dc in each of next 8 ch, skip 2 ch, Spl Sh in next ch, skip 2 ch, dc in each of next 8 ch, rep from * across, ch 3 and turn. (6 Spl Shs and 7 Shells)

Row 3 – Note: Work this row in back loop of dcs. Join white with a sl st, ch 2, skip 1 dc, dc in each of next 7 dc, *Shell in Shell, skip 1 dc of Shell, dc in each of next 8 dc, Spl Sh in next ch 3 sp, skip 1 dc, dc in each of next 8 dc, rep from * across ending Shell in last Shell, skip 1 dc, dc in each of next 7 dc, skip 1 dc, dc in ch 3 of turning ch, ch 3 and turn.

Rep Rows 3 and 2 for a total of 90 rows as follows: Color Scheme: 2 rows each – green, white, red. Work a 6 row color scheme 15 times
- Note: When changing colors, always crochet the first row of color in back loop of dc
Edging
- With G hook work along straight edge, join white with a sl st in first dc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in same sp, (sc, ch 2, sc) in each dc across and fasten off. Rep along opposite edge.
Fringe
- Using 1 strand of each color, make 6” fringes and place along top and bottom edges.
