Metal Leaf Lamp

By Marie LeFevre from Krylon

Leafing paint and paper shapes make this lamp look like it came from an expensive specialty store.

Supplies:

  • Krylon Leafing Pens - 18 KT. Gold (#9901)
  • Krylon Leafing Pens - Silver (#9902)
  • Krylon Leafing Pens - Copper (#9903)
  • Lamp and shade of desired size
  • Leaf paper shapes (American Art Clay Co. Country Garden shapes #11601A & 11602B and butterfly paper shapes #116151 used in model) or silk flower leaves such as ivy or any green vine type. Please note: The number of leaves needed depends on the size of the shade and how close together the leaves are placed. The amount also varies depending on the size of leaf used. The shade shown above required six packages of Country Garden paper shapes.
  • Tacky glue or hot melt glue
  • Straight pins
  • Pencil

Steps:

  1. Separate leaves into three equal parts. Using the Leafing Pens, color the leaves with gold, silver, and copper. Apply a second coat to the leaves for full coverage. Let dry.

  2. Using straight pins, place leaves around shade to determine the nubmer of leaves needed and desired positioning.

  3. Begin gluing leaves to the shade, starting at the back of the seam of the shade. Place leaves so that they meet the bottom edge of the shade and do not overlap the edge. Overlap leaves 1/4”, alternating colors while gluing the leaves to the shade. Glue the top portion of the leaf only, tucking the second and third rows of leaves under the previous row. The leaves at the bottom of the shade are placed with the side of the leaf to the bottom of the shade.

  4. Glue leaves to the top edge of the shade beginning at the back seam and at the top of the rim. Glue the top portion of the leaf only, tucking the second and third rows of leaves under the previous row. The leaves are glued with the top edge of the leaf to the top of the shade.

  5. Color three butterfly shapes using alternating colors. Glue the center of the butterfly together. Wrap edge of butterfly wing around a pencil to give wing a slight curl. This will create dimension. Glue the butterfly to the base of the lamp.
