Owl Pillow
Owls are a huge trend right now. Get in on the fun by making your own Owl Pillow from Heidi Borchers and using it to decorate your home. No-sew fabric crafts are perfect for craft beginners because they don't require a ton of time or expertise.
Materials:
- Aleene’s Fabric Fusion Permanent Dry Cleanable Fabric Glue
- Scotch tape
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Burlap fabric – cut to desired size for finished pillow
- Fabrics – I used fabrics from clothing I found at the thrift store including cotton, velveteen and sweaters
- Owl pattern
- Buttons – two for eyes and several for branch embellishments
- Pillow form
Instructions:
- To apply a thin line of glue, apply a piece of tape to tip of glue bottle. Begin by positioning the tape at an angle, roll bottle until tape forms tip.
- To prep front and back of burlap pillow, apply line of glue approximately 1/2″ from edge on all four sides of both pieces. Let glue dry completely.
- To create fringe, pull out burlap threads along all four sides up to glue line.
- To create branch for owl, cut tree branch from fabric.
- Turn under edges and apply glue. Press branch in place on burlap.
- Cut owl pattern from sweater fabric. Set in place to sit on branch.
- Fold up bottom edge and apply glue along edge. Fold back down to glue to burlap.
- Determine where you will be folding down top of fabric to create owl head. Apply glue under remaining bottom layer and glue face down in place.
- Cut eyes from layers of fabric circles. If desired, use circle template to determine size. Glue layers of fabric together.
- Gently crumple fabric eyes to create dimension. Glue in place on owl face. Glue buttons on top of fabric.
- Cut and glue beak in place.
- Cut and glue several layers of green fabric for leaves. Glue leaves on branch.
- Cut and glue scraps of sweater scraps for feathers.
- Glue buttons on branch. If desired, front and back of pillow together leaving opening to insert pillow form or glue edges together in same manner. Insert pillow form and stitch or glue remaining edge closed to create pillow.
