Carnation Felt Button

Make a pretty carnation felt button from The New Image Group to embellish a bag or a piece of clothing. This felt craft is easy to make, versatile for almost anything. Add a felt flower to your next project.

Materials:

Needle
Thread (to match felt color)
Felt Glue
Scissors
One 9 x 12 Pirate Soft Felt Sheet
One 9 x 12 Soft Felt Sheet- Any Color
One 2 1/4" Fun Button
Rose or Carnation Felt Button Template

Optional:

Pinking Shears

Instructions:

Cut out pieces fromrose or carnation fun button template. Cut the following pieces from felt:
Pirate Soft Felt:
3 Leaves
Optional: To create the carnation, use your pinking shears on the edge of the leaves

Soft Felt Sheet (any color):
6 Large Circles
1 Small Circle
Sew gathering stitching in a circle pattern in the center of each large circle about 1/3 up from the center. Pull the thread tight and knot off the end of the thread.
Sew the 6 gathered flowers together from the bottom of the petals. Pull the thread tight to gather the petals in a very tight circle. Knot off the thread.
Glue the three leaves to the bottom of the petals in an off center manner. Let dry.
Glue the small circle to the bottom of the petals and leavves. Let dry.
Glue finished flower to the front of the Fun Button. Let dry.

Perfect for proms and valentines day. We made some of these during Valentines day. Instead of going with the typical red rose, we made felt buttons to give out to our employees.

I have seen these felt roses before and wondered how to make them and if they would be worth making and now I see this tutorial and how easy and quick they are to make and I am wondering why it took so long. This carnation rose can be put on purse, made as single or cluster for a headband, as a brooch, and so on. Great tutorial and looks like a lot of fun. Anyone can make these.

Fun Button is a brand name, basically it is a round pin back. It is a 2 1/4 inch button similar to the ones that have campaign slogans on them.
